These two work hard and have a good match to set up the King of the Ring semifinals, but the crowd couldn't care any less and nothing has any heat at all. Austin rocks on commentary and is one of the better wrestlers at doing that. "I'm sure Marc Mero is a credit to the human race, but personally, I can't stand him."

This was heatless, but it was also the last Raw in the taping cycle and I'm not sure if the return of Hulk Hogan could have woken that crowd up. It's a good, technically-minded match with Mero acquitting himself well, though. I was hoping this would be Austin's star-making commentary performance where he obliquely made fun of the Lex Express, but that must come at some other point.

Not much impressed about that match, I thought Mero had a better one against Candido the previous week. Mero's work doesn't look crisp at all, and he looked much better in WCW. You can tell he has no idea how to behave as the "Wildman". Owen was coasting at this point, but you gotta love his tribute to Ace Cowboy Bob Orton. Austin shows he should get some promo time.

The one thing that struck me is how young and fresh Sable looked. I dunno if it's presentation, makeup or something, but it seems to me like she looked quite older in 98/99. Or maybe that's just the fact she became really annoying.

I'll agree Mero's WWF work is off.  Also, the crowd could care less about him since he debuted.  The only reason WWF crowds care about Mero is Sable, which is unfortunate as he does show some promise.  Essentially his gimmick is...crazy eyes?  That's gonna work when Foley is on the same show as Mankind.  If you look at the graphic they use for him and Sable, he is staring sideways at Sable while she looks at the camera.  Possibly all of this is not an accident.

Decent enough match with Owen trying to get the crowd into it to no avail.
