This is a non match where we see the NWO jump Flair in the back. The Giant stalks Liz to the ring where Savage comes to her rescue. This really shows what a threat the NWO are where you see Savage come to Liz's rescue since she was the catalyst that reheated the Flair feud. Hogan ambushes Savage with a chair. The Giant carries Savage to the ring and almost kills him twice by accident. Hogan sprays a chalk outline around Savage and drops the big leg about 8 times on him. Liz did a good job in her role. Hogan talking shit to her was good stuff too. It's amazing how heated an angle they did here, and then they follow up with a bad comedy match at Halloween Havoc.

The NWO attack a fake Flair in the back to write him out (since he was legit injured in a match with Hashimoto in Japan). Giant sets a trap for Savage, and Hogan nails him from behind with a chair. Liz tries to stop him, and Hogan grabs her to remind her that he "owns her". Giant slips on the stairs, as shoe said, and nearly kills Savage, then picks him up and almost drops him again. Knowing what we know about the Nitro party atmosphere, I'm wondering if he was under the influence of something. Hogan legdrops Savage again and again and again and again and again (and probably again), and this angle is super heated. I have figured out that one problem with modern wrestling is that they never put this much heat on heels anymore. Hogan then draws a spray paint outline around him. Hogan then takes it upon himself to annul their previous marriage. Hogan then suggests destroying the broadcast booth again and Syxx brings out a monster truck that looks like it's about to demolish the booth, but the show goes off the air before that can happen. I'm surprised Savage went along with this for so long. I know this was part of the reason he ended up joining the NWO (because he was tired of being on the receiving end of all the beatings), but does this have anything to do with him being gone for a few months?

I believe his contract did run off at the end of the year in 96 as he came in for 2 years initially. I dunno, Savage joigning the nWo kinda make sense in a "If you can't beat them, joign them" and also in the sense he was often portrayed as Hogan's bitch anyway. But after all those brutal beatings, yeah, it was still a tough sell (much like Liz change of heart once she was really in the nWo for good).

Anyway, another terrific, super heated angle. The execution was great, with the exeption of the Giant dropping Savage on the steel stairs then neck first on the top rope. Hogan ruled here, being a complete dirtbag and badmouthing Liz, who herself was very good in her role, and she sold the drama of the situation really well which probably helped get even more heat. nWo really look like a pack of wolves here, pun intended. Looking back at this period, DiBiase was absolutely fine as the boss of the faction. The cliffhanger at the end was quite terrific, the monster truck with sleazeball Syxx in it looked menacing as hell.

This was a good angle but it would have had more impact if we hadn't seen about 30 Savage beatdowns already. From a kayfabe standpoint he had maybe the shittiest year of any main eventer in history. We also get some trademark Kevin Sullivan read-between-the-lines stuff, as it's supposed to be implied that the Nasty Boys are being used to distract security or head off help. Just a shot of them chaining the locker room door or something would have been appreciated instead of us having to figure this out and assuming the entire WCW locker room is a bunch of chumps. I don't know how anyone could possibly have expected Savage to win at Havoc.

Great angle, Hogan is especially great taunting Liz and really pissing the crowd off.  I'll agree Savage had an entire year of taking beatings.  I'm wondering who actually believed Savage would beat Hogan at HH at this point.  The whole nWo/WCW vehicle thing is getting a little old.
