Oh God. Jarrett as a babyface in WCW was a BOMB. They're in Memphis, which I think is the only true positive reaction he ever got during this run.

It doesn't help that you bring in a WWF heel to defend WCW against the WWF invaders. Yikes.

Jarrett didn't stay a face for long though, as he quickly transitionned into the sneaky 5th member of the 4 Horsemen, trying to take Mongo's spot and wife, which was a fun program. But yeah, Jarrett first coming up as a *face* after years of chickenshit heel in WWF and playing the "I'm wrestling tradition" card was a bomb.

That fake laugh at the end of lines is really annoying.

This came after a very good Jarrett vs Bubba match in which Jarrett didn't work like a heel for a change since it was taking place in Memphis. Jarrett was totally doing the Double J gimmick, complete with country music theme and fake laughs.

Hard to get too thrilled about Dubba J vs. the Giant. This Memphis crowd doesn't seem too thrilled with him at all--and for Christ's sake, he was a heel when he was last in the USWA, so why should they be?

I thought he got a fine reaction but yeah, not the most inspiring promo and something felt phony about the whole thing.

If you watch the match against Bubba Rogers, he was getting a monster hometown babyface pop. Double J chants at the beginning and he was getting big reactions during the finish for the Figure-4 tease, finally punching Jimmy Hart and beating Rogers by dropkicking the megaphone in the face. The promo with the weird "Ho oh Ho" laughs was weird. Jarrett's problem I think he wrestles like a babyface and is a really compelling babyface, but he is unlikeable outside the ring (character/promo). They could have hid him in a tag team to avoid that. 

The promo was definitely on par with the really fun Memphis-style match with Bubba.  It didn't seem near babyface enough for how he had wrestled.  Super fun match that the crowd ate up.
