Posted December 6, 201014 yr comment_5459762 Loved the opening sequence with Mikey recovering from being dumped on the floor with a blindside double bulldog and then the double dives by the faces onto Jason and Duncum. Spike controls Jason but telegraphs a back body drop and gets hit with a nice tiger driver which brings in Duncum. Duncum hits a big powerbomb but pull Spike up on the cover. They throw Spike to the floor and isolate him working him over with chairshots, shots with Duncum's cowbell, et. Jason brought some surprisingly fun stuff during his portion of the control segment and Spike working a series of roll ups as hope spots was effective. Spike gets the hot tag off of missed elbow from Jason. Duncum takes an insane bump to the guardrail off of a Mikey dropkick. Amazingly the heels comeback on Mikey and take him down hitting a nice double shoulder tackle and a sequence of elbows. Finish is cool as Duncum hits Jason with a big boot leading to a Mikey roll up as Spike lunges at Duncum. This was not a great performance from Duncum, but this is the first match of his that I think really merits a serious look.
December 15, 201014 yr comment_5460425 Jason & Bobby Duncum Jr. vs. Mikey Whipwreck & Spike Dudley (8/19/97) - Fun little opening with Spike and Mikey outsmarting the heels, causing them to regroup outside only for them to get jumped on by Mike & Spike. The faces work on Jason until he catches Spike in a Liger Bomb. Duncum comes in and looks like a monster compared to the little guys. Spike does what he does best which is getting his ass kicked. This match just has a great classic tag team structure with good offense, early face shine, heel beatdown with Spike as FIP (damn, he takes a beating here), nice beatdown on Mikey and fun ending with Jason eating a Bobby boot. I think this s an EASY nomination and ECW doesn’t always have these types of logical matches even if the wrestling is fun.
February 2, 201114 yr comment_5463846 Spike Dudley & Mikey Whipwreck vs. Bobby Duncum Jr. & Jason (8/19/97) Good back and forth action from these two teams following the basic tag formula which like Will said wasn't used much in ECW. Spike was very good as the FIP as usual and the heels did a pretty solid job of working him over. Mikey gets the hot tag and goes to work on the heels but they fight back until a miscommunication leads to a cradle finish. This was fine for what it was but I'm not feeling it as a nomination as Duncum & Jason didn't wow me enough here.
