Does anyone know if they've recently disallowed this? All the sites, like Barnes And Noble, Borders, Tower Records, etc. where I was able to sample music in the past from albums through streaming audio appear to have taken down all the links. What happened?

iTunes. You want samples, they have samples. But you gotta buy for the full deal. I think a lot of sites have had to put into scripts to block DLing samples or have had to remove them completely to avoid being implicated for providing copyrighted materials free for download (most streaming sources can still be captured using the right programs). Kinda bullshit but law is law.

Yahoo music is where I used to smaple music from. I don't know if they still do it.
