Posted December 23, 201014 yr comment_5460942 The opening sequence was great as they go from a rope running spot, into Greg getting slammed by Blackwell, into Blackwell missing a splash, taking his awesome dropkick sell and then Brunzell coming in and working his arm really well to wild approval from the crowd. Patera comes in and he gets his arm worked over too. There is a clip here though I don't think much is lost at all as Patera misses a diving knee and then gets hung up in the ropes on a wild looking bump. I really liked the transition to the heat section here as Brunzell gets too close to the heel corner and Patera just sort of lays his weight on him in such a way that it allows for him to tag Blackwell in who catches him with a splash. The heels are really working some great stuff here, as you get Brunzell isolated in the corner eating a huge avalanche that he doesn't see coming, the old tag behind the refs back hope spot and a really cool spot with Patera working over Brunzell on the floor only for Brunzell to floor him with a forearm and rush in for the tag only to be trapped in a front face lock by a lunging Blackwell. Fucking great hope spot from Brunzell on a back body drop of Patera. Blackwell tags in and ends up going up top where he misses a big splash with Brunzell almost instinctively rolling over for a nearfall that Patera breaks up. Brunzell ALMOST gets to the ropes but Blackwell tags in Patera and trips Brunzell at the last second allowing Patera to hit an elbow to his back. Gagne comes in and attacks Patera which allows Brunzell enough time to hit a dropkick. Brunzell retreats into the heels corner but as Patera comes forward he goes through his legs for a hot tag. Patera ends up getting squashed by Blackwell who is whipped into him and Blackwell busts out a whole slew of fat man bumps including a great weeble wobble sell of a drop kick with Gagne chopping him over for the final TIMBERRRR. Gagne locks on the sleeper after Patera takes a nasty and wild bump to the floor. Brunzell goes out to work over Patera on the floor but Adnan runs in and clubs the ref with his cast to trigger a DQ. The only thing about this that wasn't awesome was the finish, but I didn't even mind that as post-match stuff with the faces ripping the cast off of Adnan and then choking him and beating the heels with it was awesome.
April 1, 201114 yr comment_5468787 High Flyers vs. Jerry Blackwell & Ken Patera - Great work by the Flyers early on, double teaming and working the arm of Jerry to keep things moving at a good pace. When he tags Patera, the Flyers do the same to him and the crowd loses its mind. Patera misses a charge in the corner, grabs his knee so they work over the leg. All good. Great spot as Patera weakens Jim, looks like he is about to regroup but Jim kicks Patera’s leg and then pounds on him before tagging out. I hope the Blackwell comp has better VQ since there is some tracking going on bugging the shit out of me. Great change of momentum with Blackwell using a big splash, a bear hug and a corner avalanche to break Brunzell down. PAtera continues the work on the back while giving Jim some hope spots. Damn, another avalanche. Brunzell is making a great FIP and the drama only increases with Jerry missing a super splash from the top. Great hot tag from Greg and holy shit, he gets a backdrop on Jerry. Crazy ending with Adnan interfering and causing a DQ but this is an easy nomination. Also on AWA rarities 4
October 12, 201113 yr comment_5484922 AWA World Tag Titles - SR: Ray Stevens: The Sheiks (Crusher Blackwell & Ken Patera) © vs. The Hi-Flyers ("Jumpin" Jim Brunzell & Greg Gagne) (11/24/83) Hi-Flyers were fun early working over Blackwell's left arm showing good teamwork making quick tags keeping Blackwell in their area and then Patera gets the same treatment when he tags in. Patera would miss a kneedrop off the middle rope so the Flyers took to working the left knee over next. When it comes to babyface tag team offensive barrages to start a match, the Hi-Flyers was as good as anyone and showed it here as they were like dogs keeping the heels at bay. Brunzell would get caught though and Blackwell crushed him with a splash on his back to start the heel control section. The heels viciously work over Brunzell's back but Jim tries his best to fight back to get to Greg who was really good in the corner getting the crowd going. Brunzell finally gets some hope after Blackwell misses a big splash off the top rope but he goes for the cover instead of the tag with Patera throwing him off. Brunzell tries to crawl to Greg but Blackwell traps him and tags in Patera who eats a dropkick from Jim as Stevens tries to put Greg in the corner. Brunzell crawls through Patera's legs and gets the tag to Greg who runs wild as the crowd goes nuts. This becomes a 4-way brawl with Greg getting the Weaver Lock on Blackwell as Brunzell hits a fucking sweet dropkick on Patera who tries to interfere. Adnan jumps in the ring and assaults Stevens as this is going on then hits Greg with the cast as Stevens calls for the DQ. Cheap finish but this was very fun and an easy nomination.
