Posted January 2, 201114 yr comment_5461364 Bobby Bass/Bobby Crawford v. Lou Garvin/Buddy Lane Bobby Bass avoiding contact at all costs with Lane early and then there is an awesome spot with Bass going low to sink in on a tie up exchange but Lane leapfrogs him and then slams Crawford when he comes into the ring all in one swoop. Meanwhile Bobby Bass is running around ringside bitching about a hair pull. Mind you Bass is bald. Heels end up isolating Garvin and working over his arm. Armwork is not outstanding but it is solid and the heel tactics are really great, espicially Bass blatantly utilizing a hair pull and just casually stomping on Garvin's arm. Garvin gets a pretty fun hope spot with a sloppy looking running knee lift. Garvin finally makes the hot tag after a missed elbow from Crawford. Lane cleans house and Bass ends up walking around lost on the floor. Lane gets a nearfall with a spinning back elbow off the ropes. Bass ends up catching an overzealous Garvin off guard with a bulldog for the finish. Sunny War Cloud v. Paul Peller War Cloud wins with a sunset flip. Not very good. Interview with Bobby Bass/Spoiler Frenchy Martin v. Ron Hutchinson Hutchinson gets slammed on the floor, rammed into a brick wall, gets headbumped onto electrical equipment and then choked to death with one of the tv cables. Hutchinson takes a crazy between the ropes back bump to the floor off of an elbow to the face. Then Frenchy hits a big shoulder breaker and pulls up on the fall, then wins with another. Total squash but fun as fuck. Interview with Bobby Bass/Frenchy Martin Cuban Assassin/Leo Burke v. The Spoiler/Killer Kalimekoff Love the early rope running spot with Burke/Spoiler. Cuban Assassin throwing a front trip take down into this was neat. Burke ends up getting worked over a bit and takes a really nice looking leg drop from Spoiler. Killer ends up coming in and Assassin takes over him and they work over Kalimekoff's leg. Spoiler ends up tagging in and I really liked the spot with the Assassin going for his DDT but he telegraphs it and Spoiler counters with a slam and a knee drop. Assassin goes for a comeback but misses a big elbow drop. Burke tags in and gets a nearfall with two consecutive sunset flips. Burke locks a sleeper on the spoiler and Kalimekoff gets DDT'ed but Frenchy Martin runs in to help the heels. Cuban Assassin was a good FIP and I liked some spots a lot but this was disappointing. Interview with Cousin Mike/Leo Burke Man Mountain Mike v. Paul Gray Squash for MMM. Cousin Mike v. Hercules Simms This is most falls to curfew and is an incredibly short match. The Spoiler/Killer Kalimekoff v. Buddy Lane/Ron Hutchinson Hutcinson is pretty clearly the best babyface in the Maritimes at this point. I continue to marvel at the oddball "psych" utilized in these matches, but Hutchinson makes things work here. I will say that Buddy Lane took some nice looking reaction bumps off of sharp strikes from the heels, and the opening rope running spot was good stuff from Lane and Spoiler. But everything else that was awesome about this was Hutchinson, whether it be Hutchinson in a strike exchange with Spoiler, Hutchinson hitting an out of nowhere crossbody for a nearfall, Hutchinson hitting a sweet monkey flip for a comeback spot, Hutchinson doing this awesome delayed small package nearfall spot to avoid a Kalimekoff slam, Hutchinson taking a sick looking bump from a Spoiler lariat, or even Hutchinson making a straight backbreaker look brutal as fuck and believable as a finish. Hutchinson is the least imposing looking dude alive but he was good. Hercules Simms v. Gerry Etefier This actually has good structure but I find Simms really uninteresting. I did like the stretch run of nearfalls and Etefier hit a nice headscissors. Interview with Leo Burke, Cuban Assassin and Gerry Etefier Leo Burke v. Frenchy Martin Early on Burke has Frenchy fleeing the ring and then controls him with a headlock. Cool drop down spot with Leo dead stopping and dropping a knee on Frenchy's head. Frenchy backs Leo into a corner and takes over with some cheapshots. Nice elbow drop for a nearfall from Frenchy. Frenchy with a throat jab behind the refs back. Leo fights back and has Frenchy reeling but Frenchy counters a top rope move with a big slam off the top. He hotshots Burke on the top rope and drapes his knee over his throat. Frenchy locks on an ab stretch but Burke reverses with a hip toss and knees Martin, then rakes his boots over his face. Burke hits a suplex for a nearfall but misses a follow up diving headbutt. Burke gets knocked to the floor and Frenchy tries to keep him at bay but Burke fights his way back into the ring with punches. Finish is hilarious as Burke accidentally tackles a ref, Martin goes to his tights and hits him with a foreign object. Then Martin rolls Burke on top of himself for a Burke nearfall and then rolls Burke up for the finish. Pre-match the crowd was amped for this and it really did succeed in feeling like a special event. Minimalistic match, but I liked it, and it seems like something that Canadaphiles would want to see. Frenchy Martin/Spoiler/Kalimekoff interview. The Iranian Sheik v. Rick Paterson Ridiculously silly squash. Interview with Iranian Sheik/Bobby Bass Sunny War Cloud v. Bobby Bass Holy shit Bobby Bass storming the ring with the American flag and waiving it around in War Cloud's face feels like a deleted scene from Ernest Goes To Camp and I mean that in a good way. Bobby Bass running away from the "War Dance," dominating with cheap shot punches, doing the old handshake bit, et. is all good stuff. Bass complains about War Cloud using a closed fist, and then grabs a headlock and punches War Cloud right in the face. Bass gets tossed outside and starts arguing with camera men. Bass gets his arm worked over but breaks it with a cheap shot and starts clawing at War Cloud's face. War Cloud comes back with some rapid fire offense and gets a nearfall with a falling chop. Time runs out with War Cloud in control. Shame this didn't have a real finish, because I thought Bass' heeling was really awesome again and War Cloud was over enough with the live crowd to make this seem like more than just a typical studio match. Gerry Etifier v. Chuck Simms This was basically an offensive showcase for Etifier. With the exception of the shitty Thesz press, I liked most of this for what it was. Great Malumba v. Bobby Crawford Squash for Malumba who is easily the shittiest guy in the promotion. The Iranian Sheik v. Cousin Mike Short match that ends with a a locker room emptying brawl.
