Posted January 24, 201114 yr comment_5462817 clips of Jumbo v. Bock Clips of Jumbo v. Martel Nick Bockwinkel/Billy Robinson v. Curt Hennig/Blackjack Lanza JIP at about the 13 minute mark with Curt in peril. Robinson does his cool neck compression splash during this period. Curt comes back with some nice punches to Bock and Lanza tags in. Lanza comes in a nice house of fire, but Bock ends up taking over and locking on a sleeper hold. Cool spot as Lanza just rolls Bock over his head and out to the floor. Lanza fires up and tags in to Hennig who hits a stiff forearm off the ropes. They go straight to a double knockdown spot. Hennig makes the tag and Bock starts wildly bumping around for every bit of babyface offense. Bock finally tags out and Lanza takes a big bump into the turnbuckles and then gets hit with Robinson's neckbreaker and a sick slingshot into the bottom rope. Bock tags back in and goes for a piledriver but gets back body dropped. Both guys tag out and Hennig goes on a nice run of offense. He locks in an ab stretch but gets dumped to the floor. Bock runs over and posts Hennig behind the refs back. Hennig makes it back into the ring a bloody mess and Robinson locks on a full nelson so Bockwinkel can lay in a cheap shot. Awesome sequence as Hennig leans forward with Robinson on his back and back body drops Bock, then flips Billy over his shoulders, goes for a lateral press that Bock tries to break up with an elbow but Hennig moves so he elbows Robinson. Then he hits Billy with a standing splash for the finish. The structure of this is really herky jerky at times, but everyone looked really good and I loved the finish. Almost exactly half of the match is shown. Bockwinkel promo on Martel High Flyers/Curt Hennig v. Terry Funk/Nick Bockwinkel/Steve Regal We have this already on one of the PWUSA discs. Interview with the Axe and Curt. Curt/Larry Hennig v. Nick Bockwinkel/Ray Stevens The opening stuff with Curt on offense wasn't much, but when he went FIP he was awesome. Just great setting up mini-comebacks, bumping around and selling his ass off. They built great tension off a front face lock of all things, and Stevens punches to the throat were sick. Great punch exchange with Bock and Larry was a lot of fun off the hot tag. Double knockdown spot ends with Larry getting isolated on the heel side of the ring. Larry was a surprisingly good FIP and they do a great hot tag spot with Larry carrying Bock to his corner to get the hot tag. Curt comes in and is laying in stiff shots with the heels just bumping around wildly. Cool blindside/double team Axe from Larry, who follows up with an elbow drop for a nearfall. Curt hits a dropkick and Larry knocks Stevens off the apron driving both guys to the floor. The "wrong man" is Stevens who sneaks into the ring and steals the fall with a small package. Really good tv tag match. Stevens was clearly past his prime but I was impressed with the way he worked his limited role especially. Post-match brawl was great. Curt Hennig/Scott Hall/Greg Gagne v. Nick Bockwinkel/Ray Stevens/Larry Zbyszko We have this and it is nominated already. Curt/Larry Hennig v. Nick Bockwinkel/Mr. Saito The opening mat exchange with Saito and Curt was fun and led to Bock tagging in and doing some fun work on Curt. Cool spot with Curt trying to sit up on an arm stretcher only for Saito to punch him in the face from the apron. Saito opens up with some stiff shots on Curt. Bock locks on the front facelock and they do the slow build to the tag but Saito distracts the ref and they do a double team on Curt behind his back while Larry protests. Curt hot tag comes off a telegraphed back body drop and is kind of uneventful but the crowd comes unglued for the Axe and the heels bump like crazy for me. Bock gets isolated and the Hennig's go to work on his leg. Kind of weird as Bock is building mini-comebacks and trying to make the hot tag and the Hennig's are using heel psych tactics but it is a lot of fun. Bock tags out off an eye rake and Saito comes in and gets pinballed around a bit. The Axe ends up getting isolated and worked over by the heels. Larry with another sort of uneventful hot tag and Curt comes in hot reeling off some nice offense. Heels get double bumped around by the faces and Bock gets isolated and hit with a big forearm by a Curt but Saito breaks up the fall. Larry gets distracted and Saito blindsides Curt as he is going for an atomic drop giving the heels the win. Sort of an oddball layout to this, but a really good match nonetheless. Greg Gagne/Curt Hennig v. Ray Stevens/Nick Bockwinkel JIP and Greg makes the hot tag to Curt almost immediately. Heels are bumping wildly for Curt. Curt hits an elbow drop on Bock for a nearfall who breaks it up with an eye rake. Curt ends up getting overwhelmed and goes into an FIP that is really great. Stevens is awesome throwing cheap shots from the apron and Curt throws some really fun shots trying to establish a comeback. Curt with a fairly insane face first bump to the floor. Fun quirk here as Curt is being held at bay on the floor so Gagne comes in and works some cheapshots on the heels. Back in the ring and Curt is bloody and exhausted and goes into a desperation punch exchange with Bock slipping through his legs to get the hot tag. Stevens takes a nice bump off a face slam on the mat and Bock is stumbling around like a drunk for Gagne's offense. Gagne lock son the sleeper and Bock is flailing around a boots the ref in the face. Stevens and Hennig come in and all hell breaks loose with Stevens getting chucked over the top, Bock getting posted, et. This was pretty awesome stuff. Not sure how much was missing on the edit. Ray Stevens/Nick Bockwinkel promo Tom Zenk/Curt Hennig v. Nick Bockwinkel/Larry Zbyszko JIP but I don't think much was missing. The opening of this was worked like a workrate match with guys just unloading stuff quickly. It's not high end stuff really, but it's stuff at a rapid pace which was kind of unusual for the AWA. Curt gets his eyes raked by Larry's boots and goes FIP. Standard and fun heel stuff and I like some of the FIP teases as well as the build to the actual tag, but Tom Zenk just doesn't inspire as the "save the day" guy. Larry's selling of the turnbuckle shots amuses me. Curt with the "Axe" for a nearfall, followed by a Zenk dropkick for a nearfall. The running theme here is that Larry keeps pulling the babyfaces off of the covers. Zenk does an airplane spin of all things and this time Larry drops an elbow to break up the fall. Larry bumps through the ropes to the floor while fighting Zenk and gets blindsided by Stevens who shows up and helps Larry spike piledrive Zenk on the floor! Cool angle as Greg Gagne leaves the announce both, Zenk gets counted out, et. Curt Hennig/Greg Gagne follow up promo. Karbo shows up and says he didn't see what happened which is hilarious. Gagne ends up cutting a super spirited and pissed off promo. EXTRA Finish of Hansen/Martel title switch and post-match promo.

If this is from Winnipeg, it may be available complete. Greg Gagne/Curt Hennig v. Ray Stevens/Nick Bockwinkel JIP and Greg makes the hot tag to Curt almost immediately. Not sure how much was missing on the edit. If it's from Winnipeg, same as above. Tom Zenk/Curt Hennig v. Nick Bockwinkel/Larry Zbyszko JIP but I don't think much was missing. I'm thinking this is a TV match, so it is likely available in full. I think this match was the build/angle for the 6-man bout at Super Clash with Hall/hennig/Gagne vs. Bockwinkel/Stevens/Zbyszko, already nominated as noted. I didn't make this comp, and most of the matches on it are available in better quality from various sources (if the quality on it is as I remember...I transferred it from VHS a long time ago.
