March 11, 201114 yr Author comment_5466928 The Honky Tonk Man shows up at the Memphis studio! HTM says Eddie Marlin has "all-timers" and as a result, HTM can't get the kind of matches he deserves. Marlin comes out and acknowledges that they've talked on the phone many times, but that you don't pick and choose your matches in the USWA, you work your way up. HTM points out the hypocrisy in promoting their open door policy and then not getting the matches they come in for. He singles out Jeff Jarrett getting preferential treatment and Jarrett comes out to dispute this. HTM: "I don't think I know this young man." Funny. HTM again says Jarrett is protected. Jarrett says they should wrestle today and that if he beats him, he will be a top contender. HTM says he has no interest in wasting his time not wrestling in championship matches and walks out. Good segment.

October 5, 201113 yr comment_5484311 I loved this segment. I thought HTM did a great job coming in as the big-shot loudmouth, and Jarrett was a great white meat babyface there to call him out. I loved Honky's line about not knowing who this 'young man' was, and thought everyone really played their part well. If only Honky could actually go in the ring at this stage, I imagine he could have had a hell of a run in 93 Memphis with his promo ability. As it is, between the shape he was in at this stage of his career (which his awesome jumpsuit doesn't do a great job of hiding) and whatever politics there were with Lawler, it doesn't appear that he had much of a run.
June 22, 201312 yr comment_5548686 I’d go to HonkyLand USA. Honky can’t get the matches he wants. He’s the greatest of all time. No mention of the Intercontinental title. Marlin wants Honky to work himself up the rankings before getting any title shots. Honky totally fit in Memphis and this segment was loads of fun.
October 22, 201311 yr comment_5568475 Holy shit, the Honky Tonk Man! Wasn't expecting that at all. He's doing his WWF babyface shtick and I'm thinking this is a set-up for something. Ah, yep, old decrepit Eddie Marlin has Alzheimer's preventing him from communicating. Marlin comes out and puts him in his place. They have a good back-and-forth--no surprise that Honky still thrives in this type of setting. He calls out "Little Jeff Jarrett," but quickly plays innocent as soon as he appears: "I don't think I know this young man." Ha! "What titles have YOU held recently?" Honky has no response to that. As I said, Honky fits in this promotion like a glove. I'm sure his ego would get in the way of any kind of extended run, but I think he could do just fine working Memphis heel shtick in this setting.

December 14, 201410 yr comment_5645102 Agree that HTM would be welcome here in this environment getting the younger talent over. Good stuff both with Marlin and now Jarrett. This was a significant step up to me from the Christopher vs. Jarrett clips we saw last week.
June 12, 20169 yr comment_5756816 The one and only way Honky works in Memphis is if he shows up unannounced during a Lawler interview and plays a tune on his head, which leads to an immediate Unified title series. Tie him in to the WWF "invasion" and play up his IC title reign for all it's worth, and acknowledge that he used to be Wayne Ferris, for heaven's sake. Mentioning that he and Lawler are cousins wouldn't hurt either. Seeing him again was nice, but I really don't need for him to not wrestle Jeff. The whole segment seemed like filler, maybe a substitute for another segment that didn't come off as planned. It certainly didn't lead to anything substantial, or we would have heard about it. If I had to bet, I'd say that Lawler was his original target but refused to work with him for whatever reason, which led to Jeff coming out in the Kingfish's place.
June 20, 20169 yr comment_5757550 Of course, this lead to...nothing. Honky never wrestled Jeff in the main towns and only worked Buddy Wayne's spot shows. A couple weeks later, Jeff entered a program with "The Rock n Roll Phantom" whom, I think, the promoters wanted us to think it was Honky, but it was obviously Don Bass in a mask.
