Even 10 more minutes would have helped. I love the matwork and Ramirez does an awe-inspiring dive to close out the first fall. But this needed way more time than 15ish minutes.
October 20, 201311 yr comment_5568192 Laughable finish with Felino having an octopus stretch on his Ramirez but his own corner man Casas throwing in the towel. The referee was too easily convinced by Casas on that one. Finish was a bit too abrupt.
December 15, 201311 yr comment_5576148 This is going really good with a fun blend of matwork and dives and big moves...and then Negro Casas double-crosses his brother and throws the towel in even though Felino has an octopus hold applied on Ramirez. Cheap-ass finish to a lucha title match. Should have had Casas cry and beg for his mother to throw in the towel on Felino's behalf instead. Ciclon so far is this year's "who IS this guy and where can I see more of him?" figure of awesomeness.
March 11, 201411 yr comment_5593395 From the latest blog: Felino vs. Ciclon Ramirez, CMLL World Welterweight Championship match (5/21/93) This had everything going for it -- Felino interrupting a Ciclon Ramirez interview in the gym and brawling with him, a contract signing with both men wearing three-piece suits, Ciclon wearing a beautiful boxing robe to the ring and Felino clinging to the oversized welterweight championship like a cat staking out his territory. Even Casas was swanning around with his butt cheeks hanging out of his baby blue trunks. Given all that, the match was a hefty disappointment. The matwork was only decent when Ramirez was in control, which is fairly typical of Felino's early title matches. He didn't really improve at title match matwork until he started working with Santo in '96. Beyond that it was mostly dives before the Casas/Felino angle. Casas does a really good job of selling his bewilderment at Felino pushing him around before throwing in the towel. The angle wasn't as hot as it could have been, but that's 1993 CMLL for you. It was still a beautifully dickish move on Casas' part. It's too bad they didn't give us the full title match before running the angle, and I still think it was a dumb move to unmask Ramirez.
March 2, 201510 yr comment_5656814 Felino takes a nice bump to the floor on a missed splash in the corner and Ramirez follows with a plancha. Ramirez with an *awesome*, truly terrific, super fast dive onto Felino that takes them both a couple rows deep into the crowd. Ramirez then wins first fall after a quebradora and cool cradling submission. Ramirez wins second fall when Felino has him in an abdominal stretch and Negro Casas, Felino's second, throws in the towel. This followed Felino shoving Casas down in some kind of angle earlier. They continued arguing outside and Felino shoved him down on the floor again. The dives and submissions made this more accessible and neater than some other lucha, though it was tough to follow the Casas bit going in blind. ***
March 23, 201510 yr comment_5660054 I dug this a ton to the abrupt finish but I realize it was there to set up more matches down the line. Felino and Casas have great issues with each other in this one leading to Casas essentially forfeiting the match for his man. Felino's expression was great once he realized what had transpired. ***3/4
August 31, 20169 yr comment_5766143 The finish completely overshadowed the match here; with the exception of a couple of good-looking dives, the match itself hadn't found its way into first gear yet. Even if you didn't know the backstory, you knew something was going to happen between Felino and Casas after Felino shoved Casas down not once, but twice. You just don't do that to someone with Casas' reputation and expect to walk away unscathed. Ramirez's dive into the crowd was probably the best actual move we saw. Can you imagine being a fan in the second row and seeing these two flying straight at you? And they're lightweights! At least when monsters like Hansen, Brody, and Abby brawl into the crowd, they're moving slowly enough so that those who want to get out of the way can do so safely. There's no time for that here, and even a two hundred-pound guy can do damage to the average fan when he's coming through the air as quickly as these two did. Are Felino and Casas legit brothers? That would certainly add fuel to what promises to be a sizzling hot feud!
