Let's get this going again! Real life took had to take over for a few weeks, but I'm back on board!

 

Lawler talks about the passing of Ernest Everhart, who was head of USWA security.

 

They show some fun clips from the Jerry Lawler Show where he plays a bit part.

 

This being Memphis, I expected an angle, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The brief clips from Jerry Lawler show and it is miles better than Flair’s show. Lawler mentions the passing away of USWA security member/bodyguard Ernest. Nice of them to pay tribute to him.

Very classy tribute all around. Even though I too smelled an angle.

Lawler promo paying tribute to whom I thought was a fan named Ernie Everhart, but from reading the above was a security guard, with highlights of him on some skit / set. Lawler seems legitimately sad and touched.

Cool tribute to a security guy in USWA. These things make USWA have a great community feel that you don't get in many other promotions in history.

It was nice of Lawler to do a ttibute like that to someone whise main work was behind the scenes. Usually only on-air performers and owners of promotions get tributes when they die. I liked the standing ovation at the end, which was not only a nice final tribute to Ernie but a way of getting the fans back in the mood to have a good time,

 

The difference between Flair's show and Lawler's show is the difference between a non-wrestler's half-baked idea of what a wrestling talk show should be and a legitimate local TV show that just happened to star a famous wrestler. By legitimate, I mean a show that didn't have to advance angles or be about wrestling (although it had wrestlers as guests and advanced angles on occasion). When I saw some clips on the 80s Memphis set, I was surprised at how comfortable Lawler was in a non-wrestling setting. He may not have been Carson or Letterman, but he was far from an embarrassment.
