Posted February 19, 201114 yr comment_5465584 Brad Rheingans v. Steve Regal Regal got awesome height on the drop down monkey flip spot here which looked great in general. Rheingans busted out a between the legs single leg and then cartwheeled away from a drop down monkey flip from Regal but ended by whiffing on a dropkick. I am not a Regal fan but his elbow always looks good and Rheingans sold the impact well here. Regal goes to his shitty headlock but at least Rheingans was fun working underneath, including a cool bridge out attempt. Regal goes for a slam and an elbow but misses the elbow and Rheingans makes his comeback. Jimmy Garvin ends up coming out and distracting Rheingans costing him the match. This started out pretty sharp and got progressively worse. Sherri Martel v. Candy Devine Boy Sherri was great early fighting with the ref on the search, selling her wrist off simple mat work, bitching and screaming, et. Martel throws Devine to the floor but Devine circles around on the ground and dropkicks Martel wildly over the ropes. Martel bitches some more and gets slingshotted in. Devine hits a couple of face planting catapults and a Boston crab but Martel rolls through into a cradle for a nearfall. She takes back over on offense by doing one of the most deliberate throat jabs I've ever seen and then rattles off a serious of nearfalls before chucking Devine to the floor. Devine gets bumped down from the apron a few times but catches Martel as she comes in and post her leg and then slams her on the pitchers mound. Devine ends up going to work on Sherri's arm. Sherri is able to reverse and steps on Devine's face, throws cheap shots, et. Devine hits a sunset flip for a nearfall hope spot but Martel comes back with a big hooking clothesline off the ropes and a suplex. Martel hits a pretty shitty looking top rope splash for the fall. Sherri is a big enough presence in wrestling history where I would like to see something of hers show up on the set, but I'm not sure this is the match. She has some great moments but if this made the set it would be destined for bottom five range and I just can't argue for match like that. EXTRA Greg Gagne/Scott Hall/Curt Hennig v. Larry Zbyszko/Nick Bockwinkel/Ray Stevens This is nominated already. Rick Martel v. Stan Hansen This is nominated already.
May 22, 201114 yr comment_5471596 AWA Lt. Heavyweight Title: "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal © vs. Brad Rheingans (9/28/85) Good back and forth action to start with Rheingans putting Regal on the mat with moves as Regal comes back with strikes and aggressive tactics. Regal took control and the match slowed down here as Rheingans was a fast mover while Regal was methodical. Rheingans was good trying to make the headlock interesting then was fiery on his comeback before Garvin would come out to distract Rheingans so Regal could cradle him. Rheingans was fun here but the match wasn't much. AWA Ladies Title: Candi Divine © vs. Sherri Martel (9/28/85) Sherri is ready for her superpush while Candi looks like she is ready for Tom Byron. Sherri is quite the performer here with her schtick and she carries herself as a star while Divine is just there and doesn't do a whole lot. Sherri gets the win and begins her superpush. Fine for what it was. "Rambo" Greg Gagne, Scott Hall, & Curt Hennig vs. Nick Bockinwinkel, Ray "The Crippler" Stevens, & Larry Zbyszko (9/28/85) The legendary Jack Brickhouse does the intros before the match and tells some stories as he's doing it like only Jack could. Hennig starts out and looks good as he frustrates the heels with his quickness and ability to get out the bad situations they tried to put him in. Zbyszko would get caught by the faces and would take some punishment from all of them until he gave Hennig a nice backdrop suplex. Bock would come in and the heels then started working over Hennig including sending him to the grass where he got slammed hard by Zbyszko with Bock would get some shots in also. Hennig was really good here as the FIP and would finally get the tag after a double collision bringing in Gagne who was a house of fire before a 6-way brawl erupted. Hall was very green here in everything he did even when it was time to come in the ring. Hall would finish off Stevens though with a powerslam although neither was the legal man. Hennig was solid here and the FIP section was the best part of the match but the match as a whole isn't enough for a nomination to me. AWA World Heavyweight Title: Rick Martel © vs. Stan "The Lariat" Hansen (9/28/85) This is a wild brawl at the bell as Hansen jumps Martel then takes him to the ground where Martel fights back throwing some good punches and swinging chairs. The action finally comes back to the ring so they can start the match but it wasn't long before they went to the floor where after about a minute the referee would call for the bell. Both men are wild and crazy here brawling with each other all over the field. Me personally I think this is an extra because there wasn't enough of the actual match between the brawling.
