Hiroshi Wajima vs. Mexican Angel (9/20/86) Easy win for Wajima.

Bruiser Brody vs. Mighty Igor (9/20/86) This is a brawl at the bell going all over the field with wooden chairshots abound. This was your standard fare Brodyesque brawl.

Next we get a Dory Funk Jr. set to Warrior by Survivor. Extra material.

Super Medico (Jose Estrada) vs. White Knight (Pat Rose) (9/19/86) This is a fight as soon as they get in the ring with the crowd going nuts for Medico. Knight would slow the pace down but Medico would have none of that and started working over Knight's left arm. Knight to his credit though shook it off and went back on offense before Medico quickly made a comeback throwing some great punches. Medico would work over Knight before eating a knee in the corner allowing Knight to go back to work on the mat. Knight throws some good punches here as well but Medico again would fight back before going for the mask which forced Knight to foule Medico. Knight would climb up top but Medico threw him off eventually leading to a ref bump where Knight accidentally clotheslined the ref. The wrestlers continued to brawl with Medico going for the mask but Knight would toss him into the other referee which allowed him to grab some brass knux which he would use to KO Medico for the pin but Medico had his foot on the bottom rope. One referee saw the foot and the knux while the other one didn't so the decision was reversed. Knight attacked Medico after the match for good measure. This was a fun little match and I think it's good for a low-end nomination.

NWA World Tag Titles: Ivan & Nikita Koloff © The Invaders (I y III) (10/19/85) This is an interesting matchup. Koloffs were working with RnR Express at this time so they were adapt at working this type of match with Invaders using their speed and quickness to counter against the power of the Koloffs. There is some clipping here and Nikita fucks up a key spot in the match where he was supposed to catch Invader III after a plancha from the top rope but drops him so he has to pick him back up so Invader I could do his dropkick spot to take them down. Invaders would win by DQ in the end and this was fine for what it was.

Taped Fist Steel Cage Match: Hercules Ayala vs. Killer Tim Brooks (October 1985) Both men juice here as the taped fists are not the only thing used here as Ayala breaks out a chain to bust up Brooks. There are some really good punches thrown here but everything else here is just okay nothing more nothing less. Not a nomination.

Next is Chicky Starr's Sport Shop with Super Medico which doesn't last long.

Then we get clips of a match featuring the RPM's against Mr. Elijah Akeem & Crusher (Rip Morgan).

US Heavyweight Title: Magnum TA © vs. Tully Blanchard (August 1986) This is from the same show as Dusty/Flair and this is quite the interesting match to have in WWC. A little clipping here but what was shown was really good as they have a spirited brawl in the ring and on the grass. Tully throws some damn good punches before Magnum finishes him off with a belly-to-belly suplex. This was a shortened version of their match but it was good.

WWC Jr. Heavyweight Title: Invader III © vs. "Bulldog" Don Kent (10/5/86) Invader works over Kent's left arm early before Kent decided to work a reverse chinlock for what seemed like forever. This would turn into a back-and-forth battle with Kent winning the title using his loaded kneepad.

Then we get clips of a RPM's vs. Chicky/Ron match where the RPM's valet Sasha juiced on the floor. Next is Chicky Starr's Sport Shop featuring El Profe & TNT.

Then they show the Stan Hansen/Josh Stroud squash from 1984 again.

Hercules Ayala vs. "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff (October 1985) Ayala's salt and pepper mini fro is wild here. Very odd seeing Nikita work as a stooging heel early on as he points to his head showing he is smart then stalls around for a test of strength spot. Nikita would soon take control and the match slowed down until Ayala made his comeback before Nikita backdropped him to the grass. That would lead to them brawling for a double countout.

More Aniversario 86 matches and that Wajima match is quite the curiosity considering the brevity if his in ring career.

I think the Super Medico Sports Shop segment is him being insulted and then he challenges the Starrs to a tag title match. He leaves saying he's going to get himself a partner.

Is the TNT Sports Shop segment this one?:

If so, this is basically shortly after his debut and El Profe says that TNT will refuse to wrestle anyone until he gets an opportunity to wrestle Carlos Colon.

Hiroshi Wajima vs. Mexican Angel Unbelievable that they had Abby right there and didn't want to reenact the legendary EricR personal pick that wasn't from All Japan. I was hoping we would at least get some tit based offense here, but instead this just ended up being a random as fuck match to have on a Puerto Rican stadium show. Wajima's facial expressions are great in this, he sells pain as an annoyance and looks like a cranky, hungover, Artie Lange when he does it. This was short and enjoyable for questionable reasons.

Bruiser Brody vs. Mighty Igor If you had said to me, "hey Dylan, what guy on planet earth seems like the least appealing theoretical Bruiser Brody opponent in 1986" I'm not sure I could have come up with an answer half as good as Mighty Igor. This match is pretty much exactly what you think and in a way I think this is the sort of match Brody fans think of as good Brody, because he just keeps moving along through everything, with Igor throwing meaningless chairshots and Brody huffing and puffing to the beat of his own drummer. The size disparity between these guys is pretty funny as Igor is trying to present himself as the same level of physical specimen and it just doesn't work. There were some funny moment in this, like Igor throwing these hand less headbutts that didn't look painful (which is actually pretty hard to do), seconds after throwing a surprisingly great throat strike. When they spill back out to the in field Brody actually took a great bump into the chairs. I actually liked the finish, as finishes of this sort guy, as Brody getting frustrated when a chairshot didn't phase Igor and smashing it against the backstop was a pretty amusing moment. This was actually not as horrifying as it looked on paper, and I could see a Brody fan led nominating committee throwing this on the dock, but Kris didn't go for it, I wouldn't go to bat for it and I damn sure know Will won't.

The Dory Funk video should make the set, just for the hilarious opening with Dory cracking a bullwhip over and over. EXTRA

Medico v. Knight I have already seen and seconded. Ivan & Nikita Koloff v. The Invaders (I y III) The easy listening playing over the intro for the Russians was something. This is another one where I error on the side of saying yes coming in for novelty purposes. Having said that, the clipping really hurt this. I actually don't think all that much is missing from the match, but we got all of the slow parts of the shine segment and we don't get the cut off to start the heat which is a pet peeve of mine. The last few minutes of this are super hot and the setting helps this a ton, but the seven minutes of this we have really don't feel like they merit inclusion on the set. Possible EXTRA

Taped Fist Steel Cage Match: Hercules Ayala vs. Killer Tim Brooks I actually watched this not that long ago on youtube, but I'm rewatching it here, because I didn't write it up for whatever reason. This isn't heavily clipped but has some awkward and silly camera shots and effects. Brooks looks like the vagrant character from the Dennis The Menace live action film played by Christopher Lloyd, which is actually a pretty great look for a heel. The taped fist stuff is a pretty big deal in PR, so I didn't mind that this was all punches because that is what you would expect in a match like this. I also thought this was well put together with a clear shine section for Ayala, a period where Brooks returned fire and busted open with Ayala and then Ayala coming back with the help of the chain to bust up Brooks. Ayala is a pretty inconsistent striker as some of his stuff looks terrible and some of it looks pretty good, but I do think Brooks did a good job on the defensive trying to look vulnerable and make it all look good. Down the stretch they did a fun reset spot where both guys went low and Ayala hulked up with Brooks begging off, which led to the first real cage shots in the match. Brooks ends up on the ropes and you think he is done and he comes out of nowhere with this huge running knee strike that looks great and follows up with a big diving punch. He goes to the well one more time and ends up getting hit with a slam and then a great looking powerslam for the finish. Neither one of these guys is a favorite of mine, and I could see the pacing in this being off putting for some, but this is a good match in my eyes.

Chicky's get up and posturing on the sports shop segment with Medico are wonderful.

Rock N Roll RPMs v. Elijah Akeem/Crusher This is JIP from a stadium show, with the faces in peril. The crowd being as into the RPM's as they were is one of the bigger surprises of all of this footage to me for some reason, but here they are very over again. What we saw of the FIP was good stuff here, with good selling, good build to the hot tag and a clever cut off. Morgan looks pretty good in PR and I wish we had more of his stuff in full. The post-hot tag stuff is good and the finish was fun, but this is less than five minutes of the match. Too bad.

Magnum TA © vs. Tully Blanchard Boricua, do we know how much was clipped here? It didn't seem like a huge clip because they were clearly working at a sprint pace here, but I have no clue if we can figure out how long this went. I'm not sure this even went five minutes footage wise, but I think this is a solid nomination if it's enough of the match because everything they did looked great, it was intense, it was exciting and the crowd marking out for the belly to belly was awesome stuff. Worse case scenario this is an EXTRA,

but I want to know how complete this is. Invader III © vs. "Bulldog" Don Kent I thought it was funny that in the pre-match they basically showed Kent loading up his knee pad. If Kent was a few years younger, or had been in better athletic shape (he was really in fine shape for his age) this could have been really good. I liked the idea of Invader working the arm and Kent working the headlock/chinlock base to contrast it. Some of the hope spots were pretty good and this had good heat. I even really liked Kent's bumping in this, which was spirited and much better than you would expect. The match also naturally and organically escalated and developed and I am generally a mark for matches like that. I even liked the loaded pad finish. On the other hand this match also really pissed me off, because for all the matches we saw that were clipped up, or didn't get the full time, this got nearly fifteen minutes and it really didn't need it. It could have gone eight minutes or so and been just as good, in all honestly probably better. And while I think this was an interesting match, that exceeded my expectations, I'm not sure it would hold up at all on second watch when packaged with a bunch of other strong matches. So I am pretty conflicted on this match. If I nominate it and it somehow makes the set, I have a feeling it becomes Buck v. Regal 2.0. If I don't nominate it, I think I'm cheating one of the few tv matches that felt fully developed. I'll put it on the dock, but I don't know about this one.

The clip of the RPMs v. Starr's with Sasha blading just pisses me off because they had a hell of a hot feud and we may not end up with any of it on the set as a match proper. That just seems wrong. EXTRA

Hercules Ayala vs. "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff Forget everything I said about Kent/Invader III being too long, because this is the epitome of too long. I have generally enjoyed these discs a lot more than Kris seems to have, but how the fuck does a promotion that can't give more than seven minutes tops to t.v. matches, and regularly clips up stadium matches with tons of heat, allow an unaltered version of this relatively heatless (by PR standards anyway) match to end up on tv? I get that Nikita was a star and Ayala was over, but what promoter on Earth looks at their tv situation and says "eh, we don't need the Starrs v. RPMs to get more than five minutes of tv time, this super engaging Nikita/Ayala singles match is gonna tear the house down." This was not good at all, with even the brawling portion at the finish feeling like small potatoes by PR standards. Not a good end, to a good disc of wrestling.
