Universal Heavyweight Title Tournament - Semifinals: Carlos Colon vs. Abdullah the Butcher (9/20/86) Again it's great seeing Flair, the Funks, and all the other heels just hanging out in the dugout watching the action. Abby pounds on Colon early and often using his fork to bring out the juice and this feels like a WWC match already. Colon would make his comeback and the fans go nuts as he gets the fork and busts Abby open then just beats his ass bloody before kicking him in the balls. The blood is pouring here as Abby is doing the Terry Funk in the ropes spot where he gets punched and keeps coming forward. Colon is great here using headbutts and punches along with biting to bring out the juice as the crowd continues to go nuts. Colon then works over the left leg setting up the figure-four but Abby gets free a couple of times before Gary Hart hands him something that he jabs Colon with in the balls. Colon recovers quickly though and goes back to work on Abby even hitting a suplex then jabbing him in the neck with a fork to win the match. Gary Hart then gets beat up until Abby uses a cane on Colon which would bring out Atlas & RPM's to make the save. This was very fun watching these two bleed all over the ring and it is matches like this that made WWC what it was. Easy nomination.

This isn't the 91 match but few things are. On the other hand this was what you expect from Colon and Abby - guys getting stabbed and bleeding. This wasn't a match filled with little touches. It was Colon selling an ass beating and then delivering on one. Abby seemed to really have his working shoes on here as his selling of the big shots was great, he did a great see-saw spot in the ropes teasing a bump to the floor and took a monkey flip and a suplex. I also really liked the camera catching Gary Hart pass the foreign object to Abby for his last gasp. Colon ends up winning by stabbing, which is the only way a match between these two should end. This didn't have floor brawling, but it got better as it went along and had me really hooked by the end.

It's pretty much commonplace that when Abby and Colon have a match it's going to at least be fun. So far, this is the best match I've seen from them (I've yet to see the 91 match) and it's fucking awesome. Abby uses a foreign object from the get go and bloodies Colon. We have Abby biting the cut, standing on Colon, and dropping fat man elbows for near falls. Colon gains the advantage with a low blow and Abby is bleeding as bad as he ever has and Colon works over Abby's cut. I loved the spot with Abby seesawing in the ropes and nearly taking a horrifying bump to the floor. All of the chopping down the tree spots were great with Abby doing an awesome job of slowly crashing to the mat. I really loved Colon being unable to lock in the figure four because Abby is fat and the spot where he very nearly gets it in and Abby's fat ass is just too much is fucking great. Colon gives Abby a monkey flip and a suplex too which ruled. Gary Hart sneaks in a foreign object for Abby who uses it and after the suplex Hart distracts the ref and Colon grabs the object out of Abby's tights and uses it on him for the win. The pop for that shit was nuts too. The post-match was fucking awesome with Hart and Abby beating the piss out of Colon and the faces including Tony Atlas coming out to make the save. This was a helluva match and an EASY nomination.
