Posted March 13, 201114 yr comment_5467142 Brad Rheingans v. Boris Zhukov The Slaughter run-in match we have already. Nick Bockwinkel/Blackjack Lanza v. Rick Martel/Wahoo McDaniel JIP. This starts with Martel as an FIP which is a role he always excels in as he is a naturally expressive seller and times comebacks well. I continue to be impressed with Lanza who did some fun desperation cut-offs. Wahoo gets the hot tag and lights the heels up with chops while the place goes apeshit. Kind of shocking to see the faces get a clean win. Not enough shown to be a nomination. Road Warriors v. Jimmy Garvin/Steve Regal This is the title switch. Nick Bockwinkel v. Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie JIP at 10 minutes in. Basically just the finish shown. Leon White/Earthquake Ferris/Greg Gagne v. Boris Zhukov/Alexis Smirnof/Gary Gordenko We already have this. Jerry Blackwell v. Ray Stevens JIP. What was shown was hard working stuff but nothing blowaway great or interesting. Jimmy Garvin v. Curt Hennig Cool double leapfrog into dropkick exchange. Precious doesn't like that at all and distracts Hennig which allows Garvin to sneak in and take over. Curt takes over with some more fast paced stuff off the ropes but Jimmy takes over with a headscissors and baits the crowd. Curt fucking smashes the shit out of Garvins face with his leg on another mat exchange. Garvin decks the shit out of Curt on the ropes but Curt ends up taking him down. Hennig does an incredible punch drunk sell of a punch and does a wild tumbling backward dive onto his head on the floor. Garvin gives him a hot shot. They do a double knockdown spot and Curt makes a comeback. Hennig goes up top but Regal pulls his foot up and he takes a huge bump. All hell breaks loose with Regal and Gagne in the ring. With a better finish this would have been a nomination. Earthquake Ferris v. Col. Debeers This sucked though Gagne freaking out for Earthquake Ferris on commentary was pretty amusing. Midnight Rockers v. Maxx Brothers This was actually one of the weaker Rockers matches I can remember mainly because the heels sucked, but boy the finishing spot was pretty fucking cool with Jannetty going up for what look like a headscissors and then just getting chucked over the top to the floor in mid-leap. Stan Hansen v. Curt Hennig Already nominated. Larry Zbyszko v. Curt Hennig Lots of Larry heel stalling early of course, but I have to say the best part of it was Mr. Go in Larry's corner doing hilarious karate poses into the camera looking like one of the villians from Double Dragon. There is literally one teased exchange for the first five minutes of this and that ends with Larry flying backwards through the ropes to the floor, with a follow up camera shot of Go brandishing a kendo stick toward people in the front row. When they finally locked up the crowd went fucking insane and Larry was really great selling the shots of Hennig and playing the aloof fool. Hennig goes to a headlock and Larry works roll through near falls off of it, using the hair and trunks and it is very well done. When they come out of the headlock they go into a great rope running exchange that end with a suplex and then unfortunately a count out. On the way to a nomination, but the finishing run was way to short to merit one. Nick Bockwinkel v. Boris Zhukov This is incomplete
March 13, 201114 yr comment_5467188 Leon White/Earthquake Ferris/Greg Gagne v. Boris Zhukov/Alexis Smirnof/Gary Gordenko It's Yuri, not Gary, although I like Gary a helluva lot better.
January 12, 201213 yr comment_5492189 Yuri Gordienko (Paul DeMarco), Alexis Smirnoff, & Boris Zuhkov vs. Earthquake Ferris, Greg Gagne, & "Bull Power" Leon White (1/17/87) The crowd was definitely into this but damn did almost all of these guys suck. Leon was fun but that was about it as Greg wasn't inspiring and the rest just didn't do it for me. I did like this more than Will but I still don't think it's a nomination. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin vs. Curt Hennig (October 1985) This had some pretty good back and forth action with both men moving at fast pace but the action wasn't real compelling. The finish run picked it up but the double interference by Greg & Regal killed it. Fun for what it was. Stan "The Lariat" Hansen vs. Curt Hennig (5/31/86) Hansen talks shit on the injured Crusher Blackwell before the match and then attacks him trying to injure him further before Curt runs in the ring and starts the action fast and furious. After some early success by Hennig, Stan uses his power and strength to take control of Curt working him over but Curt is a pesky fucker and keeps fighting back. Hennig is great here being a pesky fucker not backing down from Hansen taking punishment and coming back but a headbutt to the groin gives Hansen a window which he takes advantage of. Hansen hits a big piledriver but as he goes for another one Curt yet again comes back with a counter. Curt is throwing everything out he can now to win the match and it turns into a slugfest with both men giving it all they got trying to put the other one away. You know it's going to a draw but you don't give a shit because the action was so damn good. This is a slam dunk nomination. Curt Hennig vs. Larry Zbyszko (September 1986) This was like the Hennig/Garvin match in that it had some good action but marred by a crappy finish.
