Jim Breaks vs. Young David 2/13/80 - It was fun to see a game, 17-year-old Davey, but this was really a masterful performance by Breaks. He did a wonderful job of keeping the crowd fired up by slipping in all kinds of borderline cheap shots while, at the the same time, working the hell out of Davey's arm to set up submissions. I loved the way Breaks lost his composure a bit to set up Davey's last-ditch run at a draw. Just a very satisfying match overall and something that needs to be on the set.

Johnny Kidd vs. Zoltan Boscik 11/13/86 - I'm not sure why they called this four-man tourney the Christmas challenge when it was filmed in mid-November but so be it. This semi-final actually turned into a really solid match. Boscik gained the early advantage in the third round with a nasty submission that involved him twisting Kidd's leg and stepping on the back of his neck at the same time. Kidd sold the damage to his leg big to start the fourth but used quick counter strikes to get back in the match. He really upped the tempo and had Boscik running and stalling on the outside. They did a good job overall of establishing that Kidd needed to work a quicker pace while Boscik wanted a more grinding-style match. It came down to the last round, where Kidd got overeager with one of his diving strikes and gave Boscik the opening he needed for a second submission. This wasn't a blowaway great match, but they played off their contrast in styles to produce something engaging. I'll throw it a nomination.

Kid McCoy vs. Jeff Kerry 11/13/86 - Two young guys working quick and flashy without much sense of struggle or attention to detail. Despite some moments of exciting offense, this wasn't anything that would make a set.

Kid McCoy vs. Zoltan Boscik 11/13/86 - This tourney took a disappointing turn after the strong opener. McCoy pulled the upset here but Boscik didn't have enough time to grind on him and make the flash win seem like an achievement. Walton tried to sell the excitement; I wasn't buying.

Kid Chocolate vs. Jack Mulligan 11/14/81 - Just a throwaway five-minute match from a knockout tournament.
