Posted March 18, 201114 yr comment_5467612 Fuji Yamada vs. John Wilkie 12/27/86 - Dceent showcase for what the newly arrived Yamada could do, but Wilkie didn't show much. Fuji Yamada vs. Mark Rocco 4/28/87 - Rocco was actually trying to win his title back from Yamada. With the go-go pace and multitide of highspots, this felt more like a New Japan match than anything else I've watched from WOS. Rocco turned in a pretty good heel performance, cracking me up with his audible shit talking about various New Japan stars. Yamada worked very hard and was over with the British fans. They could have cranked up the drama with a stronger Yamada rally after Rocco evened it at one fall each. But people will want to see this on the set, and it was pretty good. Nomination. Fujia Yamada vs. Rocky Moran 11/25/86 - Simple match but a very good introduction of Yamada for the British fans. He hit a bunch of big spots and looked great doing it. Moran also played his role really well, stooging and bumping when appropriate but making his stuff look like it hurt when he went on offense. This wasn't high-end stuff but well done for what it was. And I assume people will be interested to see Yamada in England. So, it's a nomination. Marty Jones vs. Fit Finlay 4/4/84 - This match showed why these two are among the best of all-time. They switched seamlessly from nasty brawling to super-slick mat stuff in a way that very few wrestlers could have. The ending, with Princess Paula pulling Finlay after Jones hit a top-rope move, sucked. But there was too much skill on display for this not to make the set. I wish we had more of their stuff on tape, because I'd like to see a title match. Fit Finlay vs. Young David 3/9/82 - This is probably one of the most widely circulated WOS matches and almost has to make the set. But it was fucking good too, with the nifty opening mat work and the hot Davey rally down the stretch. People will easily overlook the lag in the middle and vote this high in the final poll. The match definitely has an air of "what could have been" given all the tools Davey showed at age 19.
