Posted March 28, 201114 yr comment_5468492 Soldat Ustinov/Teijho Khan v Ray Stevens/Baron Von Raschke I LOVED this!! It's 9 minutes but my favorite all-time story in pro wrestling is young punks vs. old men. The old men always step it up as it's a chance to regain some past glory, and it's always so much fun. This is the best I have seen 80s Baron look, as he's eye raking and throwing great punches and just being awesome. Khan stooges all over the place and Stevens throws some great punches in here, too. Everybody seemed super motivated in this and Baron put on a real good show. This was too much fun. NOMINATE!! AWA on ESPN Classic 5/20/08, All-Star Wrestling 1988
April 14, 201213 yr comment_5500153 Stevens kind of looks like what I imagine old man Dynamite Kid would have looked like if he hadn't lost his legs. Loved the Baron doing the Boogie Woogie dance in the face of Tejo after cornering him. Marshall and Trongard suck, but they do manage to put over the importance of Ustinov and Baron facing off when they are in together. Not sure I like the idea of Baron as the FIP here, but he works it well and I liked Khan's fist drop. Man that last hot tag tease in this was really fucking great and way above the level of what you would expect from the team of Khan and Solidat. Stevens is a good house of fire and he gets a Boston Crab on Khan but Solidat runs in with the Soviet flag and cheapshots behind the refs back for the fall. This was nowhere near a great match, but I could see this as a nominal low end match on the set.
May 17, 201213 yr comment_5502730 Teijho Khan & Soldat Ustinov vs. Baron Von Raschke & Ray "The Crippler" Stevens (4/16/88) Baron runs off the heels before the bell with his baseball bat and Ray Stevens still looks tough at his age. The old farts are full of spirit and take it to the heels early before Baron works FIP and his selling works here with the power moves of the heels. The heels offense leaves a lot to be desired but it worked in this setting as the fans were wanting Baron to get to Stevens. Stevens gets the hot tag and he is great being the house of fire before locking on the Boston Crab on Teijho which would bring in Soldat and the Russian flag. Soldat would bash Ray with it behind Marty Miller's back and the heels got the win. The psychology was sound and the faces were really good in execution to go along with a fairly hot crowd this worked and I'll push it on as a low-end pick.
