Posted April 1, 201114 yr comment_5468846 Man, something must have been in the water during these tapings. The first three matches are absolute jobber destructions. I've never seen Hennig stiff a jobber, and he beat the shit out of this dude. The Wahoo stuff so far has been sluggish and boring, but here he beat the shit out of the dude. I'm not complaining. 1. Curt Hennig v David Koorijion Hennig works this guy over with big chops, and big punches to the face and body. Koorijion seems pretty lost most of the time, so Hennig literally punches him into position a couple times. He even bodyslams himself twice, since Koorijion was out of position. Match ends awesome as Hennig is in the corner, David charges and Hennig stiffs the shit out of him by getting boots up and REALLY kicking off. Then has to deadlift him on a Perfect Plex. This was awesome as it's the most malicious I've ever seen Hennig. Possible EXTRA. 2. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Pete Sanchez Wahoo really works this guy over, too, with LOUD punches to the body and big chops that Sanchez keeps trying to shy away from. This was awesome as these guys are total dopplegangers of each other, same height and exact same body. Wahoo beats him down and looks pissed doing it, just like Hennig. Possible EXTRA. 3. Manny Fernandez v Larry Bicone I was not surprised to see Manny looking pissed, and this is three matches in a row where the jobbers just got a righteous beating. Manny with big punches and a big kneedrop, and blasts him with the Flying Burrito to end it. Another possible EXTRA. 4. Verne Gagne/Mad Dog Vachon v Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan El-Kaissey – Super Sunday in St. Paul, MN 4/24/83 We only get the last 3 minutes again, which are of course really fun and just make me want to see the whole match. 5. Jerry Lawler v Chris Curtis Lawler doesn't totally stiff this guy the way the first 3 did, but it's a beatdown nonetheless. No strap removal necessary, Lawler just throws great punches and ends with a fistdrop. 6. Badd Company v Greg Gagne/Robert Gibson – AWA tag title. Morton "missed his flight" so we get this match up. It goes about 10 minutes and I'm sure some will like it, but Robert Gibson looked a little too "off" in this for me to pass it forward. His punches fly over opponent's heads and he whiffs on a couple dropkicks. DDP is great at ringside, and Badd Co. play off spunky faces real well, Gagne is motivated too. It wouldn't take much more to give it a Nom, but it wasn't quite there. DQ finish didn't help.
June 24, 201114 yr comment_5474966 Curt Hennig v David Koorijion The way Hennig takes the slams in this is really fucking cool stuff. He won with the Perfect Plex Tejo Khan/Soldad Ustinov promo Gagne announces Snuka is coming back and they go to a video package. EXTRA Wahoo McDaniel v. Pete Sanchez Pretty epic Wahoo shitkicking. Some really stiff shots and Sanchez bumped well. Manny Fernandez v Larry Bicone Boy this was brutal. Not only does Manny stiff him with strikes, he also drops him on his head with brutal suplexes. The flying burrito finish was violent as fuck. Magnificent Mimi promo Verne Gagne/Mad Dog Vachon v Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan El-Kaissey – Super Sunday in St. Paul, MN 4/24/83 Don't worry Eric, we have this in full Mr. K/Big K/Whatever the fuck guy segment talking about Manny and Wahoo and Lawler and Hennig and wathever Jerry Lawler v Chris Curtis This was fun. All Lawler but I can watch Lawler punch people all day. Badd Company v Greg Gagne/Robert Gibson The face shine segment in this felt like it went on really long but Diamond and Tanaka are both really excellent bumpers and make the most of it. Tanaka takes everything with the perfect combination of dramatics and impact and Diamond took the bump of the match with missed crossbody, skipping across the mat to the floor. Gibson ends up hitting the steel on a corner charge and goes FIP with Badd Company going straight to work on his shoulder. I actually didn't think Gibson looked bad here and even on the crawl through spot for the hot tag which was semi-sloppy Tanaka's reaction to it was so great I didn't mind. The finish was annoying but I still think this is enough to nominate.
