Posted April 13, 201114 yr comment_5469832 God, the crowd was nuts for everything Piper did. They worked this Texas Tornado style with everyone in the ring from the start. Lou Thesz was the ref and manged to be less annoying than he was in Japan. Nifty early stalling from the heels, who literally slithered out of the ring like snakes at one point. Once things got going, this felt like an all-out fight. Basically, the advantage swung back and forth as each team managed to set up 2-on-1 situations. Buddy and Rip took the first fall with a double knee-drop off the top rope. Regal actually took a lot of the showcase offense in the second fall and looked pretty good. Piper's offense looked suspect as usual. But again, he was so over and so good at emoting for the crowd that it hardly mattered The action spilled outside the ring in the third fall and they never delivered a decisive ending. But I'll give this a nomination for all the crowd heat and fun brawling. Lynch 5
July 11, 201213 yr comment_5509914 The first fall of this was just wild and exciting as hell with a super hot crowd. I actually liked Piper's offense including the jumping double knee lift and the spot where he reversed Buddy's suplex on the floor attempt and unloaded with some sick punches to Buddy's face and ribs. Regal looked good to and I hate Regal. Cool finish to the fall as Piper ended up posting himself due to over aggression and falling to a double stomp off the top after Regal got chucked wildly over the ropes. Really good stuff. Second fall starts very slow but picks up the faces coming in on offense. Lots of cool shit in there including another Buddy counter in the ropes spot, Buddy accidentally wiping out Oliver with a dropkick, a big Buddy bump to the floor, et. Love the finish with the huge crowd going batshit as Piper airplane spins Rose into Oliver and then pins him. Third fall barely exists as the teams show up and spill to the floor with Piper eating chairshots from Buddy and Thesz throwing out the match. Post-match Piper gets in his own licks with the chair. Atmosphere alone makes this something that should be on the set, but the work was good stuff too.
