Posted April 27, 201114 yr comment_5470489 This starts with the RnR Express "Jump" video from Mid-South. Super Black Ninja (Keiji Muto) vs. Invader III (February 1988) Both men jockeyed for the advantage to start using matwork but neither could take control until Invader missed a dropkick allowing Muto to hit his backbreaker then moonsault. Invader would kick out so Muto went for the mask and almost had it off before Invader I made the save forcing the DQ then they brawled after the match. "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez vs. Carlos Ocasio (February 1988) Squash. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat vs. Random jobbers (February 1988) Squash. This next show starts with clips of Victor Jovica vs. The Crusher from 12/12/87. The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) vs. The Wild Samoans (Fatu & Samoan Savage) (12/12/87) Decent sprint with both teams trading offense but there is some clunky spots. Youngbloods win fairly quickly. WWC TV Title: Grizzly Boone © vs. The Invader (11/26/87) Boone uses his weight and power moves to dominate Invader early and Boone could move fairly well for his size. I always thought he could've been bigger in wrestling but it wasn't in the cards. Invader started his comeback by taking out his left knee then caught him with a fist off the ropes and another one to get the win. The fans went completely nuts here for the finish.
June 30, 201312 yr comment_5549511 There's another match between Super Black Ninja and Invader 3 on YouTube. The Victor Jovica vs. Crusher match was billed as Jovica's revenge for being put on the shelf for over a year by Crusher. Grizzly Boone was pushed as someone that could not be knocked down easily and was resistant to Invader's punch. That's why the finish played out in that way.
November 14, 201311 yr comment_5572490 The opening of this is actually a Carlos Colon interview, though I'm not sure that matters. RnR's video may be an extra, though we already have it. Another funny as fuck Kansas Jayhawks promo. Super Black Ninja (Keiji Muto) vs. Invader III This was really just a vehicle for the broader Invader v. Muta feud. To that extent this was a decent piece of the puzzle, as the two guys were treated as rough equals until Invader I came in to stop the unmasking of 3 and the post-match brawl broke out. "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez vs. Carlos Ocasio I will always watch a Manny squash and this was another fun one. I am also learning that I will always watch a Jayhawks squash. They have to be one of the most underrated teams of that era. Long clip of the Colon v. Flair match we have in full is shown. Victor Jovica v. The Crusher Rip Morgan This was JIP and not good. Morgan worked this like someone desperate not to hurt one of the bosses and he has worked stiff in just about ever other match he's been in so it was even more noticeable than it otherwise would have been. Jovica looked really old and the match was built around a tedious bearhug that made it feel twice as long as it really was. This went about six minutes and was one of the least interesting things I've seen out of PR stadium show setting. The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) vs. The Wild Samoans (Fatu & Samoan Savage) I didn't see the clunky spots Kris saw, but I did see this as fairly disappointing. I actually wish this had been more of a sprint to be honest. It's not that it was bad, but there was an edit so we didn't see how the FIP segment started and honestly for a Samoans match this felt really tame, with nowhere near the amount of big offense or viciousness you would want. It wasn't bad, but it was perfectly middling. Another fun Kansas Jayhawks promo that starts with a creepy shot of Dan Kroffat posing with both titles. Grizzly Boone © vs. The Invader The opening of this is kind of funny and a good exercise in establishing psychology, as Boone is freaking out over the taped up fist of Invader, and keeps sending the ref over to check and determine if it is legal. This had me laughing my ass off as I was trying to figure out how a ref would make that determination and on what basis. Honestly that was the high point of the match to me. It's not even that this was bad, but aside from Boone's really impressive belly-to-belly off the ropes they really didn't do anything in this match. Invader hitting a taped fist heartpunch off the ropes did get a MASSIVE pop which was really cool and showed how over he was, but this doesn't feel like something that needs to be on the set to me.
