Hercules Ayala vs. Armando Salgado (April 1988) Squash. Handicap Match: "Dangerous" Danny Spivey vs. Random jobbers (April 1988) Squash. Miguel Perez Jr. vs. Random guy (April 1988) Squash. TNT vs. Luis Astea (April 1988) Squash. Next we get Chicky Starr's Sport Shop with Huracan Castillo, Miguel Perez Jr., & TNT so Chicky doesn't fuck around too much. Then we get a video for "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert making his grand return to WWC. Iron Sheik vs. Random guy (10/14/87) Squash. "Dangerous" Danny Spivey vs. Random guy (April 1988) Squash. Kendo Nagasaki & Mr. Pogo vs. Mike McCloskey & Armando Salgado (April 1988) Squash. The next show starts with Hugo joining Bobby Jaggers & Dan Kroffat on the farm. Super Medico (Jose Estrada) vs. Hercules Ayala (1/30/88) Fans are molten hot here for Medico who comes in blazing with punches sending Ayala scurrying to the floor. Medico then tries to put Ayala away with cradles before Ayala dropped to the floor again. Ayala would regain his barrings and would take control using his power game and roughhouse tactics. Ayala keeps Medico grounded for a while but Medico would fight back throwing some great punches before missing a running knee smash in the corner. Ayala would take advantage of this and locked on the figure-four with Medico fighting for his life to get to the ropes. Ayala would refuse to break forcing the referee to call for the DQ. This was pretty fun and a better finish would've gotten this a nomination. Then we get clips of the infamous Manny Fernandez/Invader III match followed up by Hugo interviewing Invader III bedside. The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) & The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers, Dan Kroffat, Kendo Nagasaki, & Mr. Pogo (May 1988) This is quite the match and the fans are pretty hot for the action. The match is worked like you would expect as the faces get offense early with everyone tagging in and out then the rudos would isolate Chris Youngblood taking turns working him over legally and illegally. Chris would get the hot tag to Robert before all 8 men were brawling in the ring and a double dropkick would finish off Kroffat. Fun for what it was.
June 30, 201312 yr comment_5549514 Super Medico was substituting for Dutch Mantel in that match against Hercules Ayala. The Sports Shop segment, Eddie Gilbert video and Hugo on the farm with the Jayhawks could be extras. The Invader 3 segment sounds like the one I included in the feud walkthrough.
November 16, 201311 yr comment_5572945 Man the opening of the Castillo squash was BAD. Really the whole first episode on this disc was pretty weak, with below average squash matches considering who was involved and no real angles or promos of note. Second episode opened up with a fun enough TNT squash. The sports shop segment and Gilbert video could be EXTRAs. The rest of that show is nothing much, though the tag squash at the end looked okay. Jaggers/Krofat on the farm with Hugo was fucking great. EXTRA Super Medico (Jose Estrada) vs. Hercules Ayala I think I have a higher tolerance for Ayala than most. He's not a good wrestler, but you can plug him into certain roles or situations and he is perfectly acceptable and that is basically what he was here - a perfectly acceptable, bullying heel. On the flip side I thought Medico was really, really good in this. I hesitate to say great because there is only so much you can do with Ayala, but basically everything that Medico did in this was good. Loved his opening barrage and how over the crowd was for him. The psychology of Ayala on the verge of losing and bailing out to the floor was well played and I also liked how every time the pace picked up in this Medico got the advantage. I really loved Medico's punch flurry when Ayala was caught up in the ropes and Medico's selling and timing on all of his comeback was really good. Medico also took a real good post shot in this which is something I am always a mark for. Ayala in control wasn't as compelling on it's own, though I did like the initial shot that set up the FIP and they did a really great job with the hope spots as the sleeper attempt felt huge and I thought Medico's desperate fighting out of the figure four attempts was really great. I didn't even mind the finish here, because it really came off like Ayala had to do everything to get the figure-four on and was not going to relinquish it because he knew if that wasn't going to put Medico away nothing would. Really strong performance by Medico that got plenty of time (about 14 minutes all total interspersed with what looked like a few very minor edits for local promos), built well, told a good story and left you feeling that the face was a star with real heart and the heel was a piece of shit. This should make the set. The next local promo really isn't an extra but watching Manny mug for the camera while Chicky raves like a psycho behind him is always entertaining language barrier be damned. The stuff with The INvader 3 injury and the Manny angle will make the set as an Extra in some capacity I'm sure More stuff with the Jayhawks on the farm that would be good EXTRA material. The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) & The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers, Dan Kroffat, Kendo Nagasaki, & Mr. Pogo This is another one of the matches that I gave the benefit of the doubt coming in because on paper this seems like something people would want to vote for given the odd and interesting combination of talent involved. I will say that I think these matches being broken up by short segments hurts the flow a bit, but if you skip ahead it's clear not much is missing. This was a good, hot, exciting, tv match. Kroffat in particular was the stand out as he was both a great stooge and fun on offense. The opening shine was good, the heel beat down on Youngblood was well done, got good heat and featured some cool spots (I loved the leapfrog/lariat combo from the Jayhawks and the bit with him hanging upside down in the corner while being beaten looked good), the hot tag itself was well timed and appropriately theatrical and the "all hell breaks loose" finish was solid too. Good match, not out of this world, and not something that I would rate in the upper tier or even close, but I can't see a good reason not to nominate it and I would lean strongly in favor of including it on the set. Show closes with some more Jayhawks fun on the farm EXTRa
