Posted April 30, 201114 yr comment_5470636 Mike Miller v. Brian Adias This was basically all Miller bumping around for Adias simple offense. Not bad but a totally uninteresting match with a lame DQ finish. Al Madril v. Jules Strongbow Al Madril is working over time as sneaky/bitchy heel. The opening mat exchanges are nothing complex but look pretty good and it set the template for Madril's whiny posturing which really made this match a lot more entertaining than I would have guessed it would be. Strongbow sucks but is inoffensive here and the match is mostly about Madril's exchanges with referee Sandy Barr. Eventually the wrestlers end up going into this weird parity bit that leads to a time limit draw. Sort of oddly entertaining but not a good match really. Rip Oliver/Assassin/DK interview. Buddy Rose/Curt Hennig v. Assassin/Dynamite Kid (2/3 Falls) Pre-match is great with Hennig/Rose in their matching tracksuits and Rose disrobing slowly to a massive pop. First fall of this is really great as Hennig was a just a tremendous underdog babyface at this point. He bumps huge for shoulder tackles, is the perfect guy to take DK's stuff, throws a mean haymaker and had some really awesome hope spots. Really loved the fireman's carry hope spot especially and the sunset flip he and DK worked looked something epic and was a true "near fall" in the non-U.S. indy sense of the term. The spot with the tag behind the refs back was really well done, with Barr literally tackling Buddy to get him to the corner and Dynamite hitting a nasty diving fistdrop that Hennig sold like a gunshot. Crowd was just bananas for this and when Buddy tagged in they really lost it. Buddy goes for the hood of the Assassin and then they go into an awesome workrate/parity exchange that was totally fresh for the time and ended with a really nice Buddy roll up for the pin. Great stuff all the way around. Camera man sort of misses the beginning of the second fall with Rose dropkicking Assassin into Rose for a big double bump. Buddy gets caught after a roll up attempt and isolated by the heels. Cool variation of the typical Buddy bottom rope bump as he hooks it and saves himself at the last second by clutching to the apron only to take a couple of concrete bumps off of cheap heel shots afterward. Rose gets in some defensive hope spots that worked really well but eventually got caught with the Assassin's diving headbutt with the loaded mask to drop the second fall. Third fall opens up with Rose getting his arm worked over by the heels. Buddy sells it well but tags out pretty quick and all hell breaks lose. The Dosey-do into ab strech spot was a really great and unexpected moment. Rip Oliver ends up running in with a bullrope and they beat on the faces. Would have been nice to have a real finish, but this was still a great match. Buddy Rose/Curt Hennig/Billy Jack Haynes interview Rip Oliver/Dynamite Kid/Assassin interview setting up the bull rope match. Scott Ferris v. Sivi Afi This might have been the least interesting match I've ever seen. Mike Miller v. Al Madril Not very good. Madril was not really a face or a heel in the way that he worked this and Miller is a good heel mannerism why but needs someone better to play off of. Lots of this was stalling/laying around. Rip Oliver/Assassin/DK interview Billy Jack Haynes/Curt Hennig/Buddy Rose v. Dynamite Kid/Assassin/Rip Oliver (2/3 Falls) The Hennig paintbrush off the initial workrate exchange with DK was nice. Babyfaces take over on the arm of the Assassin early and do a good job working the crowd in the process. Oliver ends up tagging in and gets bumped all over gods creation taking a ton of offense from the faces and really looking good doing so. Hennig goes FIP after taking a shot to the ribs that he sells like a motherfucker. Cool quadruple boot to Hennig's rib cage. Hennig and DK do another one of their awesome sunset flip hope spots. Hennig ends up slipping into this crazy rope running spot that leads to a huge collision and the hot tag to Billy Jack. Gotta give Oliver credit as he really runs through Billy Jack's clothesline and then drops the first fall to Billy Jack's vertical rib breaker thingy while Rose and Hennig dropkick the other heels to the floor. Second fall starts with Oliver in the clutches of Billy Jack. Rose ends up coming in and hitting a really impressive one arm suplex. Oliver eventually cuts off Billy Jack on a corner charge and makes the tag to Dyno. DK gets in some nice offense which Billy takes well and is entertaining selling the power hope spots of Billy Jack. Billy had a chance for a hot tag after Assassin misses a dropkick but tries to take the Assassin's hood instead and gets caught in the heel corner leading to the third fall. Final fall starts off with Billy Jack in peril and totally isolated amongst the heels. Buddy ends up getting the hot tag and gets a teaser off the same roll up spot he had won with over Assassin the week before but the other heels break it up and take over on him. Buddy wins a suplex battle and ends up tagging out. Finish is pretty awesome as Hennig gets into it fired up, but ends up overcome and losing clean to a DK flying knee drop to the throat. Post-match brawl was fun too. Rip Oliver/DK/Assassin interview. Buddy Rose interview. Buddy Rose/Billy Jack/Hennig interview.
