Leone seemed kinda off in this one as he and Marty have a couple awkward exchanges. Stone always looks good and I wish he was in a nomination-worthy match, and a 10 minute match opposite the Rockers is probably his best chance, but there just wasn't enough good to do it. It just kinda meandered on for a while until the finish. 2. Ali Khan v Jake Milliman Milliman has a rattail here and Khan does a lot of bear hugs. Khan was so much bigger than Jake it was crazy. 3. Col. DeBeers v Earthquake Ferris If this has a better finish I would have nominated it. For a big fat guy Ferris is really not that good and really holds back on offense. But this was a pretty good underdog story with the fans getting behind Ferris and DeBeers on the ropes most of the match. Ferris gets a great nearfall with a nice powerslam, but Col. gets his foot on the ropes. Finish is absolute garbage as the Col. gets a small package that Ferris takes as if he has never ever taken a small package before, and the ref counts 3 even though Ferris' legs are literally both hanging over the apron at the knees. Lame. 4. Buddy Rose/Doug Somers v Curt Hennig/Scott Hall – AWA tag title. 10 minutes of really fun tag action with Rose and Hall getting into a posedown to start, Rose mugging to the back row during a knucklelock with Hall (and Sherri kissing Buddy's knuckles afterwards), Hennig chasing Buddy around the ring (and Buddy convincingly outrunning him), and just overall fun. Champs never control during the match which is what it is, but I understand why they would want to be pushing Scott Hall at this point as he had an amazing look. My favorite spot in the match is Rose getting whipped into Somers on the apron (and Rose just smashes into him) then Hall powerslamming him on the rebound. DeBeers runs out to distract Hall, who gets counted out to end it, and Hall throws some awesome rights to DeBeers. Good fun match. NOMINATE!

Stone vs. Brad Rheingans was the opener for Super Sunday 1983, maybe that one is the Stone match you're looking for. It's about as high-profile of a card and match as he appeared on, at least.
June 15, 201114 yr comment_5473430 The Midnight Rockers v Tom Stone/Tony Leone Stone really is pretty great here from his whiplash bumps off of dropkicks, to his selling of atomic drops, to his comically over the top heeling. Marty's face in peril segment was actually not bad in terms of what the heels were given considering how low down the card they were. Shawn's diving elbow looked great. Marty was pretty sloppy in this though and it's not a nomination worthy match. Jerry Blackwell promo on Adnan. Ali Khan v. Jake Milliman Nothing to see. Khan is one of the most boring guys in wrestling history. Adnan and his army promo. Adnan responds to Blackwell. Jesus it seems like Adnan and Blackwell feuded forever. Col. Debeers v. Earthquake Ferris Man I really loved Debeers busting out a snap mare take down out of the blue on a shoulder tackle exchange. I actually Gagne made this seem better than it was as he is a huge mark for "Anthony" Ferris and actively cheerleads for him to the point where you forget how shitty the big guys offense is at times. Yeah, this really wasn't any good but Greg's enthusiasm was kind of charming. Buddy Rose/Doug Somers v. Scott Hall/Scott Hennig Pretty sure I have watched this one already but I'm giving it a second look since Eric seemed to like it. The opening posedown act Rose is the master of never gets old but it is especially great here as Hall just hams it up on his end to great effect. God damn does Somers take the best back body drop. Gotta say Buddy was great in this, from the test of strength spot to the chase around the ring spot with Hennig vaulting over the top to run him down to his facial expression after Hennig cheap shots him on the apron. I didn't mind the face shine going on as long as it did, but you would have liked the faces to bring some sort of offense of note. Instead the face shine was ALL about the heels. Hennig finally goes FIP and he is pretty much a god in that role in general and this is no exception as he takes a nice bump into the steel on the floor and sells pretty well when he is in there but man they go to the hot tag quick and it really doesn't get the reaction it should have. Finish with Debeers was pretty stupid. I don't know. I like both of these teams but this is a tag match without a real heat section and if you are going to do that you really need more jump off the page spots and better offense from the faces for it to stand out. I am not averse to this being in the discussion, but there are better Buck Zumhofe matches I've watched and Buck Zumhofe is pretty much a bottom feeder as far as "guys that might deserve an affirmative action pick for the set." This is probably destined for the "personal pick or bust" file. Curt Hennig/Scott Hall promo.
