John Paul/Ricky Rice v. Beauty and The Beast

When I saw Rice and Paul I marked out thinking it was The Rockers and then it wasn't. I kinda enjoyed the Beast fleeing in terror from the high octane offense of Ricky Rice. Seriously it was pretty funny. The Rice dropkick and follow up big splash finish was actually pretty cool. This was not bad actually.

Col. Debeers v. Ken Raper

Well now this was an unfortunate name for a jobber. Also DDP managing Debeers seems odd.

Finish of Madusa v. Wendi Richter

Holy shit did Richter hit a great powerbomb, but then she gets her ass kicked by Bad Company which was pretty god damned insane by the time period.

Wendi Richter promo. She points to her tits and says she has Top Guns on her side. I know what she meant but still.

Nature's Best v. The RPM's

Oh man Downtown Bruno is with the RPM's and looks like he walks right off the set of Revenge of The Nerds. Wasn't Nature's Best the name of that book that may or may not be a joke about cooking with semen? Hey cool the RPM's won with a sick looking Faces of Fear style back body drop into powerbomb. The rest of this was merely there but whatever.

Brickhouse Brown v. Gary Young

Man Brickhouse entrance was great and I loved Young's reaction to his awesome dropkick. Holy shit AWESOME rope running spot and then Brown almost kills him with a powerslam right on his head. Young takes a nutty bump off of a punch and Downtown Bruno is upset. Brown goes for this insane leaping forward, stage dive style in ring tope and Young slides under him and Brown bumps to the year and it was fucking great! Brown then takes a HUGE faceplant bump as Young just tosses him high as fuck up in the air. Man Brown's punches were great and I love young's reactions to them. God damn this would be pretty damn great if Brickhouse sold anything. Young ends up going up top and misses a huge splash and then Brickhouse hits one of his own for the win. This is fun enough where I am going to toss it on the dock.

Jerry Lawler v. Kerry Von Erich

The opening chess match with both guys exchanging cocky stances and poses after breaks was good stuff and added to the atmosphere. Lawler gets fucked killed early with a couple of clotheslines. I mean literally eats them in such a way where it looks like he might have a fucking stroke and die in the ring. Lawler goes to a "sneaky" small package early and Kerry for some reason is enraged by this development. Kind of an odd clothesline thrown by Jerry to Kerry but Kerry really sells it well. Lawler hits a punch in the corner and Kerry fires back with a slow motion discuss punch that connected kind of strangely but again Lawler sold it well. Lawler ends up going for a fist drop off the top but gets met on the way down by the Iron Claw. Lawler breaks free of the claw with a huge uppercut and drops the strap. They go into a huge punch exchange and Jerry actually stands up on a discuss punch which I don't think I've ever seen. Shortly thereafter the ref gets punched out by both men. A new ref hits the ring and they go to a DQ but Kerry says he's not leaving without a winner and they get a restart. Lawler opens up with some beautiful jabs but the action gets reversed and Kerry hits a piledriver after another ref bump for an apparent finish. We end up in a ref dispute with Lawler and one ref saying a piledriver is an automatic DQ and Lawler should get the WCCW title under World Class rules and Kerry and the other ref saying that the piledriver is legal in the AWA and the AWA title should come his way. Sounds ridiculous but I thought it was a smart finish actually. The match itself was a taste of greatness, but not long enough to be an all time classic. Still well worth a look for the set.

Iron Sheik promo putting over the AWA talent. Kinda?

Pretty funny Sarge music video ends the show. EXTRA
