Posted June 16, 201114 yr comment_5473514 Col. Debeers v. Rev. Papis I seriously thought they said Reverend Papis. This is a pretty great Debeers asskicking. Some really nasty strikes, a sick corner turnbuckle shots, some vicious eyerakes, a cool as fuck suplex/slam combo, a nasty jumping piledriver and then two face first piledrivers. This was a great ass kicking squash. Buddy Rose/Doug Somers v. Leon White/Jesse Hernandez Pre-match Rose taunts White by miming that he is going to bodyslam him. Strange to see Vader teaming with a jobber here as he was already getting a bit of a mini-push if I'm not mistaken. Rose refuses to start v. White so Hernandez comes in and Rose stalks over to him and spits at him drawing him into the ring. The ref chases him back out so Buddy walks over and gives him the "kiss my ass" mime. Seriously Buddy is doing some expert mime work here and follows it up with a sweet standing swtich exchange only for Hernandez to reverse it and Rose faces the wrong direction and tries to tag in Vader before almost falling on his ass in fear. Cool spot with Hernandez taking over and walking Buddy to the corner where he tags in White. White comes in and Buddy flees with him and Somers bailing to the floor and running half way to the back. Rose finally comes back in and they do a shoulder block spot with Rose getting flattened so he Rose and Somers try and double shoulderblock and they both get flattened and bail again where they jaw with a couple of rednecks that look like they walked off the set of Swamp People. Man Rose and Somers are just awesome putting over the power of White here and we get a unique camera angle of the textbook Buddy bump through the ropes as the shot is right on top of it and you actually see the impact on the floor close up. Rose eventually goes for a body slam but Vader reverses with a sick powerslam for a near fall. White foolishly tags Hernandez in as he almost immediately goes FIP. Cool finish as Buddy throws a cheap right to Hernandez who is in their corner. Vader comes in to make the save and Rose jabs at his face. There is an audible gasp throughout the audience that really makes this as a moment and White hits the floor chasing Rose around while Hernandez jobs to a suplex. Post-match White gets his heat back. This is a strange match since it is an obvious jobber teaming with a babyface monster who is getting a push v. the soon to be tag champs. As a result the dynamic is interesting but limiting. The appeal of the match is that dynamic which makes it a match worth watching and strongly considering for the set. On the other hand the dynamic alos sort of restricts this from being a lock. Buddy Rose/Doug Somers promo. Rose says he's not here to play football he's here to wrestle. Doug Somers v. Shawn Michaels Somers busts out some HUGE bumps early which is to be expected. I really liked how Somers took over on offense by just dcking the shit out of Shawn and following up with some pointed strikes. Cool sequence as Michaels hits one headscissors and goes for a second but gets caught with a reverse atomic drop. Nice belly to back from Somers with Michaels taking a nice impact bump. This sort of turns into a back and fourth affair with both guys hitting some nice shit. Buddy runs in and breaks up a pin attempt in his ridiculous suit and the Rockers end up running through some high spots on them. This is better than their match from the Showboat, but nowhere near as good as the best tag matches or the Rose/Marty singles match and with the screw job finish I think this is not a nomination but is an EXTRA Midnight Rockers promo Adnan promo putting over Nord The Barbarian Sgt. Slaughter v. Nord The Barbarian The crowd is really fucking hot for this. First couple of exchanges are fisticuffs with Slaughter winning big time. Nord comes back by whipping Sarge into the buckles and Sarge takes a huge sternum bump with Nord going straight to work on his ribs and Sarge selling his ass off. The big boot spot looked really nasty in this. This was going pretty good when Nord botches an over the top bump pretty badly. They go to it again off of a second shot and it looked pretty good but it was one of the most obvious resets I've ever seen. Sarge locks on the Cobra Clutch with Nord hanging over the ropes and Brody hits the ring with a chain and blindsides Sarge for the DQ. Sarge fights back and locks on the Cobra Clutch. Nord literally has to drag Brody out of the his clutches while a little girl dances a jig at ringside. This was a fun seven minute segment and I could see it on the set....as an EXTRA Slaughter promo.
