Posted June 17, 201114 yr comment_5473575 Nick Bockwinkel v. Jay York York really looks ancient here. It's funny because I'm not even sure who the older guy in the match is but Nick works about ten times as fast and some much smoother it's sad. Pretty by the numbers match. Bock promo. He talks about getting handed the belt after Hansen walked out and sort of teases a full fledged babyface turn. Midnight Rockers v. Dennis Stamp/Alex Knight I love The Rockers but they are not a particularly good squash match team. You really want to see some cool double teams and while there are a couple it seems like there should have been more. Lots of confusing shit down the stretch with Michaels freaking out after fucking up an electric chair spot and being visibly pissed (and appearing to stiff Knight afterward), a weird spot that appeared to be the fall but wasn't, Michaels fucking murdering Knight with a fucking backdrop suplex, et. Strange match. Midnight Rockers promo. Brad Rheingans v. Pete Sanchez Boy was Rheingans great on offense. Love all the grappling spots. Thought his body press off the ropes looked cool. His neckbreaker is fucking brutal, Billy Robinson level shit. Just awesome. Sanchez makes a comeback and rocks the Finlay style slam into the ropes, then goes up top but gets caught and slammed off. Cool belly-to-belly from Rheingans and then a fucking insanely stiff in ring tope into the fucking face of Sanchez. Man I would kill to see Rheingans work someone decent in an extended program. EXTRA Col. Debeers/Doug Somers/Larry Zbyszko v. Greg Gagne/Jimmy Snuka/Curt Hennig Opening stalling and feeling out with Larry and Greg is just kind of there until they do a great spot with Doug holding Greg from the apron and Larry charges going for a big knee. Naturally Gagne moves and Larry and Somers both take big time bumps. Oh man Debeers refuses to wrestle the non-white Snuka! Random commericial interlude and we are back with Snuka on the defensive but he quickly comes back with the most egregious "clap" while throwing a kick spot I have EVER seen. Larry is reeling and Hennig tags in and hits a huge running dropkick then lights up Debeers with punches. Man the babyfaces are really lighting up the heels on the apron with cheapshots in this. Gagne tries to keep pace with a big dropkick but Larry holds the ropes and quickly tags out leading to Greg in peril. The look on Greg's face when Sherri slaps him is classic. The heel work on Greg is simple but it is effective and the heat spots get huge pops. Loved Debeers javelin style throw of Gagne on the bodyslam and follow up fist drop for a near fall. Trongard is fucking livid at the ref for "missing" multiple hot tags on heel control spots among other things. I really liked the spot with Somers getting caught in the sleeper and then collapsing on a body slam attempt selling the damage. Greg hits some epic strikes but is in the wrong corner and gets decked by Debeers. Snuka gets the hot tag which pisses me off because Hennig would have been way better and Hennig end up tagging in a couple of seconds later and hitting a nice second rope splash and then killing Somers with a chop and some brutal forearm blows off the ropes. The capstone flying dropkick looked great. There were flaws here, but this had an insanely hot crowd, a very well worked heel control segment and the big moments in this really stood out.
