Pat Tanaka, in a role that will surprise you. There's no heat for the match itself, despite some good action. Tony Falk runs in, but Tanaka makes a comeback and levels Embry with a big kick. White Girl hands him a chair to use, but Embry clobbers White Girl and he and Falk run off.

Cory Macklin tracks Embry down in the locker room and boy is he pissed. Mercifully Dave and Cory warned me beforehand that Embry's eye was messed up, at which point I could minimize Media Player and just listen to Embry rant. Really good promo by Embry under what were probably not planned circumstances.

I'd never seen Eric Embry before getting this set, he's such a slimy greaseball of a heel. You can't help but hate the guy. Tanaka looked like he rolled out of bed and into the ring, but he moved pretty well and the kick he landed on Embry was impressive. A little too impressive since it busted Embry in the eye. This was an example of an accidental, legit injury making a storyline better. Embry cut a great promo, the visual with his eye swollen shut was brutal.

The crowd was probably wondering what one-half of the Orient Express was doing coming to Tony and Kim's aid, and I can't blame them. This bout was about as random as it gets, and if it hadn't been for Tanaka almost putting Embry's eye out by accident, there would have been no reason on earth to have a rematch, especially since Falk's run-in was the high point of the original bout.

I loved Embry's promo, mostly because he's got to be one of the gutsiest bastards who ever lived for managing to make sense after what had just happened to him. I'm not sure if he was in pain or not, and I really don't want to know, but if he was, it must have been almost unbearable.

You know how I feel about man-on-woman violence, and I still wish that they hadn't shown Embry slugging Kim, but this is one of the few times that those who might be tempted to claim that she deserved it (in a purely kayfabe context) just might have a case. She did grab him first, and was going to hold him for Tanaka. (Actually, I'm wondering if the whole sequence wasn't improvised so Embry wouldn't have to take any more shots from Tanaka until he got his eye looked at.)

Embry seems to imply that there's a past history involving the Anthonys and Tanaka, but I've never heard of one. Can anyone fill me in?

Tanaka's kick was brutal, as was the visual of Embry's eye afterward. The promo was one of Embry's best, he comes off as completely insane vowing revenge. Especially since we know what Tanaka can do to him if he gets the opportunity. Embry's clothelsine on Tanaka was really good too. I'd agree that they ad-libbed a way to get out without Embry taking any more shots to the head.
