I'm a little disappointed in Eddy at this stage. He works hard and he's fundamentally very good, but he hasn't really become great yet. This is a solid match, but it's Liger vs Eddy. Solid is a given, you expect more. Worth watching to get a good feel for where each guy was at this point in time. Eddy would eventually become an all-time great, but in 1992, he just wasn't there. I wouldn't say Liger was carrying this, but I'm not sure Eddy was as good as Norio Honaga or El Samurai in 1992. Liger's submission I have never seen before and don't even know how to describe, but it was great.

Agreed with everyone's assessment of Eddie. He had the wrestling part down, but not the working (if that makes sense). A couple of more years wrestling alongside a few of the world's best would get Eddie over that particular hump though. Lyger's taunt after getting the knees up on Eddie's splash is the coolest thing on the set since Lozanski and co, doing the triple strut.

Definitely a letdown given who was involved. This felt pretty by the numbers with nothing spectacular. Eddy delivered a great dropkick, while it looked like Liger was poorly positioned and didn't do a great job catching Eddy on his dive. Liger's half-standing/kneeling submission was a really creative finish I haven't seen before.

Man, I'm actually loving these sort of bite-sized juniors matches. The matwork feels more important because it takes up more of the match, and it's all so solid and beautifully done. Eddy gets in his spectacular springboard dive and a few nice near-falls. I agree that he doesn't look as good as Samurai, and maybe not as good as Benoit or Scorpio. Liger catches Eddy in the same hold he caught Negro Casas with in the previous year's tournament. That finish was executed a bit better.

Again, Eddie shows flashes, but doesn't quite know how to put them together, and is eventually caught in a head scissors attempt and forced into an upside-down-something-or-other that nets Liger a rare submission win. You can tell that the powers that be see something for the future in him, as he gets several nearfalls on one of the top juniors in the world before eventually bowing in defeat.

Liger looks good in the role of crafty veteran, which is a role we don't see him in too often at this point. Eddie outwits him at times, but never enough to fully grab the momentum and keep it; Liger's always a half-step ahead when push comes to shove, as he should be given his experience level.

I've heard good things about the matches between Liger and Samurai, and I'm looking forward to seeing them. This has been a tremendous tournament so far!
