Posted July 20, 201114 yr comment_5477184 Martel coming out quick with the crossbody near fall and then running over and decking Hayes was a fun way to get this started. Loved Hennig kicking Hayes reaching hand away from a Gordy tag and then the headlock/leg scissors take down on both Birds to a massive pop which was a great follow up. Hayes tags in and Hennig takes his huge bump off of a clothesline, with Michael strutting around and doing his hip thrust at Martel. They go to the Curt hope spots really quick, but they are well played and well cut off. Martel gets the hot tag and comes in super fire dup to a huge pop. Buddy ends up standing on the apron and decking Hayes on accident with his boot before getting posted by Martel who splashes Hayes for the win. Fun sprint. Would have made a really good tv main event at the time. Still the VQ is not the best here and on paper this looks like it should be blowaway great and it wasn't. It does have a novelty to it, but the best I can see this is as a low end pick.
May 20, 201213 yr comment_5502965 Curt Hennig & Rick Martel vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy & Michael Hayes) (8/11/85) This is an interesting matchup here. The faces were strong early working over the Birds especially Hennig who was on fire taking down both Birds and the crowd was going nuts. Hayes just nailed Hennig with a clothesline with Curt doing the 360 bump for which was great. Curt is working FIP now and he does a great job selling the Birds offense. I do wish Gordy was in more here but Hayes did a competent job with Curt having some really nice hope spots. Martel would get the hot tag and he was great in this role just fiery as fuck pounding on both Birds before Hennig joined in. Buddy would jump on the apron and he nailed Hayes with his boot by mistake with Martel getting the pin to win. This wasn't a very long match but it was a lot of fun and a unique matchup to boot. This moves forward fairly easily.
May 31, 201213 yr comment_5504831 Freebirds vs. Martel & Hennig - First of all, if this makes it through somehow, we need a better VQ version. This is shaky as hell. Next, there was a double bump where Hennig bounced around, Gordy kinda stood there and did the fakest bump since Bob Backlund did a phantom bump on the NJ set. Hell, you blink and this was over. Not exciting enough to move through.
May 31, 201213 yr comment_5504884 This is the best VQ available, it's from Dan's World Pro set, one of the few matches on any of his WPW sets that are iffy VQ-wise.
