Wahoo McDaniel/DJ Peterson I was really impressed by the way the Russians bumped around for the faces. Zhukov is not a guy you expect to sell/bump for Wahoo chop like it is a shotgun blast but he does here. Kind of odd to see Wahoo as the face in peril choice here, but Russians beating up the old man who tags out to the 80's "Top Gun" style babyface probably made sense at the time. Peterson almost kills himself and Boris on a suplex attempt and Adnan runs in for a DQ. Disappointing finish to a pretty good match. Post-match brawl with Adnan left a bloody mess was actually better than anything that happened from bell-to-bell. Soldat Ustinov/Boris Zhukov v. Wahoo McDaniel/DJ Peterson JIP with Wahoo in peril. This is really an angle to set up the chain match that follows. Good work on Wahoo who sold well but ultimately there is very little here. Wahoo McDaniel v. Boris Zhukov (Chain Match) We have this already Midnight Rockers v. Nasty Boys Lots of stalling by the Nasty's early who really do come off like huge assholes. I liked the rope running spot with Knobs and Michaels fine, but the one with Sags whiffing the elbow drop on Marty was better. God the face shine in this feels like it goes on forever and it is really worked at half speed. You get the feeling the Rockers felt the Nastys couldn't work their normal pace, but there really is no reason to believe that. Slick knee to the back of Shawn from Knobs to start the heat section. Loved Knobs "it wasn't me" posturing when the ref confronted him on it too. They target Shawn's back, cut the ring off on him, choke him with the tag rope, work the ab stretch/leverage spot. Really felt like heel 101 tag work but was really well done. Nice diving clothesline from Sags, followed up by another wild attempt at a clothesline and Shawn hitting a superkick that didn't look particularly great, but Sags sold the shit out of. Jannetty comes in clears the ring and hits a crossbodys but Knobs breaks it up with a sick fistdrop. Amusing finish as Michaels plancha's onto Knobs. They end up in a punching exchange, but Michaels blocks a posting attempt. Knobs goes into "beg off" mode and ends up back peddling into the ring into a Jannetty crossbody for the fall. This was merely okay until the Nasty's took over on offense and then I thought it got pretty good. The RnR v. Nasty's match is decisively better, and even though I am really high on the Rockers, I thought the Nasty Boys brought the bulk of what made this a nomination worthy match. Curt Hennig v. Greg Gagne Jesus God can Hennig take offense here as he sells the fuck out of Greg's dropkick, runs smack dab into his forearms and punches and just generally looks great. Hennig fires back with some nice stuff too but Greg takes control with his awesome leglock thing. Madusa breaks it up allowing for another opening for Hennig, but Greg comes back with some kicks to Curt's injured leg and ties him up in the ropes to work it over even more. Hennig takes some big Hennigesque bumps while in the corner, but double legs Gagne down and takes over on him with a legdrop to his nuts and follows it up with a really brutal looking gutbuster. Hennig is still selling the shit out of his leg and goes to the second rope for a diving knee but Greg moves and ends up locking on the figure four. Curt makes the ropes and Greg tries to go back to it, but Hennig just kicks him right in the face. Cool spot as Curt goes for a piledriver, they do a great back body drop escape tease, and then Curt manages to wiggle back down and knee Greg in the face. He follows this up with an atomic drop, but Greg comes back shortly after this with a dropkick knocking Curt to the floor. This ends in a DCO with both guys exchanging big shots on the ground. I thought this was good shit, though not as good as the other match of theirs I've seen. Post-match brawl was awesome too. Ron Garvin v. Scott Steiner We have this already Ron Garvin v. Robert Gibson Ronnie busting out the high bridge on the headlock counter ruled. Garvin locks Robert in a strange single leg crab where he is almost putting Gibson in a headstand position. They do a weird slap exchange that ends with Garvin tugging at his crotch after Gibson appears to give him the fucker finger...and then they go right back to more holds and counter wrestling. Garvin finally has enough of the bullshit, slams Gibson's head into the buckle and then punches him knocking him to the floor...only for them to end up in a roll up exchange back in the ring. What the fuck? Garvin roughhouses him again and then locks on an Octopus style ab stretch of all things. Garvin sells the fuck out of a Gibson enziguri, bails to the floor, comes back and hits some stiff shots and then locks on a sleeper. Awful spot with Garvin no selling a botched DDT and then biting Gibson though he does follow it up with the awesome Garvin headbutts. Match ends in a draw. No way this was bad, but boy it felt strange. Badd Company v. Robert Gibson/Greg Gagne We have this already.
