Posted July 28, 201114 yr comment_5478099 Lots of stalling by the Nasty's early who really do come off like huge assholes. I liked the rope running spot with Knobs and Michaels fine, but the one with Sags whiffing the elbow drop on Marty was better. God the face shine in this feels like it goes on forever and it is really worked at half speed. You get the feeling the Rockers felt the Nastys couldn't work their normal pace, but there really is no reason to believe that. Slick knee to the back of Shawn from Knobs to start the heat section. Loved Knobs "it wasn't me" posturing when the ref confronted him on it too. They target Shawn's back, cut the ring off on him, choke him with the tag rope, work the ab stretch/leverage spot. Really felt like heel 101 tag work but was really well done. Nice diving clothesline from Sags, followed up by another wild attempt at a clothesline and Shawn hitting a superkick that didn't look particularly great, but Sags sold the shit out of. Jannetty comes in clears the ring and hits a crossbodys but Knobs breaks it up with a sick fistdrop. Amusing finish as Michaels plancha's onto Knobs. They end up in a punching exchange, but Michaels blocks a posting attempt. Knobs goes into "beg off" mode and ends up back peddling into the ring into a Jannetty crossbody for the fall. This was merely okay until the Nasty's took over on offense and then I thought it got pretty good. The RnR v. Nasty's match is decisively better, and even though I am really high on the Rockers, I thought the Nasty Boys brought the bulk of what made this a nomination worthy match.
May 16, 201213 yr comment_5502720 AWA World Tag Titles: The Midnight Rockers (Marty Jannetty & Shawn Michaels) © vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) (2/19/88) Nastys are Zbyszkoesque with their stalling tactics which I liked here as they were big dudes who were acting like chickenshits. The pace here is slower than normal for some reason which is odd because the Nastys could move and groove but like Dylan I guess the Rockers didn't agree although they feuded in Memphis months earlier. Nastys did a really good job here making the Rockers look good and they were coming on as a team at this time. After this fairly long shine section Shawn would work FIP and this was the best part of the match as the Nastys did such a good job working the heel tag section dynamic. Nothing dynamic but they did the job and pounded on Shawn with the fans being behind him. Shawn would hit a superkick to setup the hot tag and Marty would come in cleaning house and I dug the finish as Knobbs was begging off right into a cross body block for the pin. I liked this a little more than Dylan did and I think this is more than a low-end nomination.
May 31, 201213 yr comment_5504830 Midnight Rockers vs. Nasty Boys - This was ok I guess but the Nastys pale in comparison to the Rose-Somers team that there is no way you can keep off any Rose-Somers tag and justify pushing this through. OK match if you are looking for decent early Nasty Boys stuff. Not representative of the Best 150 matches from the AWA.
