Posted February 28, 200520 yr comment_925652 To be honest, he's the only reason I am watching the show tonight... oh, almost forgot about Chris Rock. Him too. I guess we can all leave our comments in here about the winners, thoughts on the show, etc.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_926209 Well, Rock's opening monologue wasn't that bad. "They like to say 'There's 100 stars out tonight!'...No there's not. There's like 4 real stars here tonight. The rest are just popular people." "If you're making a movie and you can't get the star you want...WAIT. If you want Denzel Washington and all you can get is ME...WAIT. Denzel would've never made "Pootie Tang." About Farenheit 9/11. "Can you imagine re-applying for your job and there being a movie out about how much you suck?" "I saw Passion of the Christ. Not that funny. Jews were offended by Passion of the Christ. I can understand. Because I had to deal with a movie called "Soul Plane" this year." "Our next presenter is an Academy Award-winner for Monster's Ball and can next be seen in the eagerly anticipated CATWOMAN 2...give it up for Halle Berry!"
February 28, 200520 yr Author comment_926244 No shit. There were several genuine laugh out loud moments in that monologue.
February 28, 200520 yr Author comment_926271 MORGAN FREEMAN- best supporting actor If jamie Foxx wins Best Actor then this will be a huge day in Oscar history where both Best Supporting and Best Actor go to African-Americans.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_926427 Was it any surprise that The Incredibles won in the animation category? That movie was fuckin' awesome. "I loved The Incredibles. Next year they got the black version coming out called "The Aights." - Chris Rock
February 28, 200520 yr comment_926465 Best Makeup gets no love, hah. *is waiting to see if SMG makes an appearance*
February 28, 200520 yr Author comment_926830 CATE BLANCHETT - best Supporting Actress. I really don't like this woman.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_927695 House of Flying Daggers just got robbed for Cinematography. OMG, what EVIL~! man decided to have Penelope Cruz AND Salma Hayek present Best Sound Effects Editing TOGETHER when I'm home with NO WOMAN in sight???
February 28, 200520 yr comment_928312 What evil man decided to pair a duo who can't speak six coherent words of English? Rock was right on when he introduced them as "four presenters." Beyonce's performance was garbage, too. And what's with her looking so damn tacky? Good stuff so far, although the last half hour or so has gotten monotonous.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_928471 I don't give a damn if they NEVER speak English, personally. Hilary Swank is your Best Actress. "I'm just a girl from a trailer park who had a dream..." STFU. Swank prolly hasn't seen a trailer park in 15+ years and won her first Oscar six years ago. She's very far removed from the "poor little girl that had a dream" shit now.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_928638 The fact that they have a timer ticking down off-camera to show the recipients how long they have to make a speech is really, really disappointing. Of course, we have winners like Hilary Swank to thank for that.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_928787 We can all go to bed now. Jamie Foxx won. Wow. I thought for sure Scorsese would finally get his. Say hello to Best Director, Clint Eastwood. Best Picture: Million Dollar Baby.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_929085 MORGAN FREEMAN- best supporting actor If jamie Foxx wins Best Actor then this will be a huge day in Oscar history where both Best Supporting and Best Actor go to African-Americans. When Freeman won, the local ABC affiliate aired an Amber Alert over his acceptance speech. Brotha can't even get a break when he finally wins one.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_933035 If jamie Foxx wins Best Actor then this will be a huge day in Oscar history where both Best Supporting and Best Actor go to African-Americans. You know, it's okay to just call us "black." African-American is so PC it's sick. And it's stupid. Anyway... Was Beyonce' the house singer last night or what? I thought the show was over and she debuted her own sitcom, The Beyonce' Show after the Oscar's concluded. And you would not believe how many "African-American" people I heard on the radio on the way in to work this morning that were PISSED that Rock went down to the local Magic Johnson theater and questioned "black" people on their knowledge of this year's nominees. I thought it was funny as hell, personally.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_934161 I thought it was weird that the lesser awards had all the nominees standing on stage, and that some awards were handed out in the audience.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_934256 I thought it was weird that the lesser awards had all the nominees standing on stage, and that some awards were handed out in the audience. Merely a time efficiency method. Of course, it had to be almost humiliating to be standing up on stage to be informed you lost. And I thought the bit with the Magic Johnson Theater was hilarious. I mean, really, films like The Aviator, MDB, Finding Neverland, and Sideways aren't exactly movies I'd expect to see a large black turnout at. It did provide some good laughs, though. "Oh, it's with that same dude from The Beach."

Actually, as a teacher, I have to be very aware of what I call different groups. I can't just spit out "blacks" or "Mescans" without considering the context first. If a student is offended I didn't refer to blacks as African-Americans post-slavery, I get in trouble, not you. I thought it was funny as hell, personally. As did I. I think the segment served to reinforce Rock's point he had made prior to the ceremony. The Oscars are tailor-made for women and gay males.

The major difference being NMB isn't your classroom. It's MY classroom.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_936116 You two are so cute when you fight. It's kind of tragic, but something tells me that Rock was a little too edgy for the Academy to consider bringing back for next year.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_936141 I thought Kirsten Dunst looked quite hot last night. As did Kate Winslet, Halle Berry and Beyonce.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_938150 I still fail to see what the big deal is about her. Total butterface and not someone I'd imagine people actually fawning over. Ever.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_938209 Much like Cameron Diaz and The Mask, Kirsten Dunst seems to lose her "hotness" whenever she steps outside of the Spider Man universe. She gets kind of close when she's dancing around in her underwear in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but not much else.
February 28, 200520 yr comment_938303 It's kind of tragic, but something tells me that Rock was a little too edgy for the Academy to consider bringing back for next year. More like a little too funny for the Academy to consider bringing back! Man...does the Academy have little survey cards, like restaurants? I'd love to praise Rock but diss not having people sing their own songs. Beyonce and Banderas are definitely qualified singers (and Carlos Santana, as usual, is an amazing guitarist), but all of the performances were really lacking. When Jorge Drexler won and sang just one verse of "Al Otro Lado del Rio", it spoke volumes. I guess I just miss last years' musical performances, all of which were outstanding: Mitch & Mickey, that crazy-ass Triplets of Belleville ensemble, hell even the Cold Mountain songs were a'ight.
