Posted October 24, 201114 yr comment_5486565 So I haven't watched any AWA in ages. But back after the Shelton Benjamin v HBK match, I remember doing a write up on the merits of it opposite Baron v Jimmy Garvin. With Baron as physically broken down ex big bumping veteran working the gimmick of tough legendary veteran holding own. I think I did this with a Michaels match and Baron v Robinson too. I mean I don't like 21 Century Michaels but feel if I was doing WWE 2000s set I would have to include one of his matches. I realize that there are alot of old veterans on the set: Bock, Zbysco, Wahoo, Robinson, etc....But those guys could actually still go, and bring alot to the table. Baron was more like HBK in that all he had left was charisma, timing, and an over finisher.
October 24, 201114 yr comment_5486584 I remember thinking Baron v. Jimmy was decent. FWIW Baron is currently in the match that would finish number one or two on my ballot if I was voting today.
November 4, 201114 yr comment_5487490 I really loved Baron/Stevens vs. Ustinov/Khan from 1988, and I thought Baron was the best thing about it. Nobody else ever commented on the match, though.
