Bill Dundee (Southern Heavyweight Title Match - Loser Leaves Memphis) NOTE: I have two copies and need to see which is better - GREAT SKIT-"This is your life,Jerry Lawler"-*****-This is one of the top moments of the 80's-very realistic-some of the comments had to be shoots by the Master of Ceremonies Eddie Gilbert-very legitimate heat-this is an alltime classic) NOTE:Have this on 2 diffferent tapes and will find best version - Bill Dundee-Buddy landel v.Jerry Lawler/Dutch mantell(the tape finishes up with 3 great Memphis brawls -this may well have been one of the most underrated fueds of the 80's-the entire sequence is terriffic-great interviews-and the last match from 3/24/86 in Memphis is one of the top 20 matches of the 80's-Texas Death Match which goes something like 23 falls and 49 min-highlights only, but a must see!***** this sequence alone makes the tape worthwhile-Great!). One VHS TuCold - Video-Jerry Lawler-"Nobody Does it Better" Tu Cold 1635 - Jerry lawlerand Bill Dundee hold a press conference to promote their Classic loser leaves town match from 6/83-*****-AWESOME). NOTE: I obtained the whole build up from Ginnetty yesterday on DVD so I need to watch and make sure it is the version we want - Lawler-Dundee fued video Dundee victory celebration Dundee stable(w/young Blade Runners) celebrate defeat of Lawler Int:Dundee 12/85 NWA Memphis. Tu Cold 2064 - Lawler v Flair 8/14/82 angle and match - Lawler v Idol 1987 angles and cage match NEW ADDITIONS: - Lawler vs. Dundee for Southern Title 1984. Premise is Fabs are giving an interview. Dundee comes out and says they have never beaten him or Lawler, so they aren't true champions. Lawler doesn't want any beef with his babyface friends but Dundee won't let up. Dundee slaps Lawler, turns heel. Dundee then says he wants Lawler and a shot at his Southern Title and will put up his car against it. They finally agree (all in one TV show angle) and have the match on TV which Dundee wins. - Lawler Drunk Angle. Follow up to the match above as Lawler is so depressed since Dundee won't give him a title shot that he is drunk on his front lawn when Lance Russel comes to see why he hasn't been at TV. another incredible angle. STILL NEED: - Funk/Lawler Empty Arena Match - 1990-1992 GREAT Lawler stuff with Gilbert, Moondogs, etc. - Gilbert and Lawler in parking lot where Gilbert runs over Lawler NOTE: I may have this but I am not sure. Will know for sure this weekend. DOES ANYONE (Loss, Teke, Brian, FM) have 1990-1992 USWA FOOTAGE? Tim
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2543449 If the desire is there to include some non-Lawler stuff, I can go through my Memphis and make some nominations. The only one to come to mind immediately is the PYTs v Fabs match that I reviewed in the Match Reviews folder, but I have a tape with lots of Eaton/Ware/Taylor/Funk/Dundee/Mantel stuff on it that I haven't watched yet.
June 16, 200520 yr Author comment_2543495 Initially it was a Memphis Comp but I want to hold off on the rest of Memphis for now with Fabs v Moondogs and other stuff. The Lawler footage should make for a first great comp set and since he was in almost everything great, I feel fine leaving out the other things for now. Tim
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544133 This is really neat. I would never in a million years have thought about putting together a Lawler comp. Memphis? Sure. Reading through the list, I am really hyped to make this comp. Tim and Loss, even with Lawler gone, would there be plenty of material to put together more Memphis comps comprised of great matches and angles or just stuff that is "ok"?
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544237 Oh yeah. I think if we had access to all the footage in pristine condition, we could make Best of Memphis discs for days and days.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544417 One Note on the Mayhem in Memphis build and match. The disc is only an hour long but the way Ginnetty recorded it, it takes up an entire disc. Also, the footage is from the VHs master so it is pretty good but there is no way you want to reduce the quality of it to fit more on a disc.
June 16, 200520 yr Author comment_2544475 Good to know. I think we could chop up the slower parts of the angle builds (having seen it years back I remember lots of talking, some of it just being too long) and include the complete match. As for another Memphis set, there is plenty. Just wanted to start with a solid base and then we can track down everything else like Rick Rude beats up his valet, Tupelo Concession Stand Brawls, Tony Charles v Billy Robinson from 1981. I also want to do a comprehensive Florida comp, but I have NO CLUE where to even start on that one. Tim
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544559 A Memphis set also needs tons of music videos. I'm really intrigued by Friedlander's music video tapes, considering he has about 15 of them. Those were big in the 80s, and it was Memphis that pioneered them. The ones for the Fabulous Ones really creepy in retrospect, and it's funny that they were shooting to make them heels with the way they portrayed them, but they ended up becoming the most popular team Memphis ever had.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545182 I know his list is a monster but his VQ was so so bad, esp. for matches that happened just last year.
June 16, 200520 yr Author comment_2545290 Friedlander is hit and miss, like most dealers. His Music Video tapes (4 I believe) have some music videos that say unwatchable and others that are VG. I believe his old WWF 80's stuff might be in good shape, at least my good pal Bix believes so because that is who he is getting to do the DVDVR Best of the 80's WWF matches that are still needed. But really, a call to him will solve any mystery on tapes so that is all we have to do in the future. I figured he taped WWE TV since he taped WCW TV himself, hence why I got the 2004 TV/PPV tape as I did. Tim
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545456 Man, I think Bruiser Chong is the way to go to be honest. That collection is huge.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545468 GH, the WCW TV he taped is all masters, so I'm still going to get what I need from him. He trades for his WWF/WWE footage.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545505 OK, as long as you don't invest a huge chunk of change his way and get robbed quality wise.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545703 Ahhh, Bruiser is the guy who has a shitload of Coliseum Home Videos. Nearly all of them in fact. He wouldn't be much service for TV, I don't think. I'll have to ask him. http://s3.invisionfree.com/New_Millennium_...topic=940&st=30
June 17, 200520 yr Author comment_2554784 OFFICIAL LISTINGS AND DESCRIPTIONS Jerry Lawler vs. Harley Race 1970's NWA Title Video Package - a very cool retrospective that doesn't focus enough on Race, but it is a video designed to put over Lawler. Race takes some huge bumps on his neck. The match is laid out in typical Harley fashion with lots of scoop slams by Lawler early on, followed by a side headlock takeover, which looks incredible as Harley takes that move as well as anyone. Another typical Race spot see's him try to gutwrench suplex Lawler, only for Lawler to stand his ground and gutwrench Harley. Lots of great punches and typical 1970's wrestling you would expect to see in Memphis. Jerry Lawler gets thrown over the top rope by Joe LeDuc on to an unbreakable table - AMAZING bump. Jerry Lawler vs. Terry Funk (NO DQ) - clipped but they show plenty to really get you involved. Lots of heat for this great rivalry with both taking big bumps and throwing great punches. Jerry Lawler vs. Bill Dundee - clips of some of their early matches when Lawler was a heel.
June 27, 200520 yr Author comment_2674249 Just starting digging into Warburton's Memphis list and holy shit, it is helpful for dates and putting things together in chronological order, but also showing I need more tapes.
