Posted June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544195 I teach history and love what I do but it doesn't pay that much. I can provide for my family and still spend money on fun stuff but will never live in a huge house or be able to take 2-3 vacations a year by doing what I do. So, what is your dream job that would allow you to have a luxurious lifestyle and give you the freedom to do what you want to do? Honestly, I wouldn't mind directing movies. Should I have gone to film school or been more involved more in the arts? Probably. However, I don't know how impossible it really is. I think the biggest thing I have working against me is my age. I'm too old.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2544392 When I worked at CompUSA, the Apple technician got paid an insane amount of money (he was certified by Apple) plus he got all the perks of working at a retail store with almost none of the drawbacks. He got hardware and software at store cost and the few times he had to deal with customers, he had the upper hand because the average Mac user usually didn't know anything about repair. The kicker was most of the Apple repairs we did were warranty jobs, which got shipped to CA anyway.
June 16, 200520 yr comment_2545896 Nice cushy job as a mid to high level exec at a big pharmaceutical company. Just gotta keep plugging away. My old boss just left university for pharm and she's getting 500k a year and got a 100k signing bonus. Hopefully I can get there someday.

June 16, 200520 yr comment_2548200 My personal pick would be product tester for Consumer Reports or some other magazine. Those people get free stuff all the time to play with. You just have to get used to using it, write up a critique on each model they send you, and stress-test certain items to see what it takes to wear one out.

June 17, 200520 yr comment_2549583 Dave Meltzer's job. It's not that glamorous. Dave has to work 12+ hours every day to get the Observers out. I'd rather be the guy that tells Dave those stuff, or in other words, be a backstage insider source.
June 17, 200520 yr comment_2549680 My dream job... Fictional writer of either horror or sports. I've written several stories, most are fairly short but my current story (based on and utilizing characters from Buffy) is currently running 60 pages on Word. I'd put it here but I don't trust you all unless there's clamor. Newspaper journalist for the Boston Globe, or the Boston Red Sox beat writer.

Believe me when I tell you that getting free stuff and writing up critiques on it all isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Fair warning.

June 17, 200520 yr comment_2553471 Hard to say what the title would be, but a job I'd love to do is oversee some sports (or wrestling) DVD making. Specifically, I'd like to be able to watch whatever content may go into a specific DVD, watch it, and then decide if it belongs or not. Really, it's just an excuse to get paid watching classic sports games or wrestling matches, but hey. Second for me would be actor. Yeah, I know how showbiz success is really hit or miss (moreso the latter) but if I could do things all over again, I'd take more drama classes. I have a weird tendency to pretend to act in a state that I'm not really in (ie sad, angry, etc.) and many people (family, friends, coworkers, etc.) actually think that I'm in that state. I don't know if that means anything, but reactions like that amaze me.
June 17, 200520 yr comment_2553506 I definitely know I wouldn't be a good actor, but I'd love be a writer for movies.

I know it's an incredibly hard job, but it's also a very rewarding one, and if you're a fan, it's the ultimate dream.
