Posted December 7, 201114 yr comment_5489889 Mike Miller vs. CW Bergstrom - Miller displayed some decent offense, though it was stuff that might have worked better for a heel. Bergstrom was awful, almost like a jobber except the match was 2 of 3 falls and dragged on without him mounting any real offense. Rip Oliver busted it up with an attack on Miller in the second fall, which was a mercy killing. Avalanche vs. Brian Adams - Weird to see the future Crush doing a ninja gimmick. Avalanche took some nice bumps for a fat dude but Abudah Dein interfered on his behalf before the match could develop into much. Rip Oliver vs. Art Barr - It's unfortunate that they treated Barr as a jobber, because even at this point, he looked better than almost everyone on the roster. I really think they could have had a good match, but it was basically a squash. Steve Doll & Scott Peterson vs. Avalanche & Abudah Dein - This was OK, with Doll and Peterson playing a third-rate Rockers and the heel team contributing some decent clubbering. But again, they ended the program in the middle fo the second fall. Seriously, what the fuck was wrong with this promotion? I get that their roster was thin, but did they have to slap viewers in the face by refusing to talk about the matches on the screen? Did they have to tailor their show times to kill any potential interest in said matches? Owen had to know better.
February 17, 201312 yr comment_5535641 Mike Miller v. C.W. Bergstrom - 2/3 Falls God Childs was right this just goes on forever. Miller is not bad and was trying at points, but really what can you do? The Oliver run-in really was a god send. The Mike Miller Award ceremony did make me laugh though. Curt Hennig local promo. I liked this because of the novelty of Hennig putting over Don Owen and being interviewed by Larry Nelson about his match with The Grappler. I really want to see that match, though I'm pretty positive it's not on tape. Avalanche v. Brian Adams Don Owen's green jacket looks pretty great here. Abbuda Dein is protesting the match for some reason. Avalanche's bumping is okay, but Adams using the kendo stick annoyed me. Also this fat man/arab combo is like a homeless, meth addicts version of Blackwell/Adnan. No thanks. Assassin promo talking up headgear v. mask against Avalanche. Miller and Adams promos follow Rip Oliver v. Art Barr There is a leap frog spot in this that is one of the worst things I've ever seen in wrestling. Just saying. Grappler promo about Hennig match again. Steve Doll/Scott Peterson v. Abudah Dein/Avalanche You know what? I actually liked the first fall a good bit. The babyface shine was not out of this world, but there were some solid spots and Avalanche sold and took stuff well for a big guy. I still like that clothesline he throws and Dein as the stalking bad guy, ripping at people's faces worked. There was one sick belly to belly by the faces and then I even liked the double pin spot as Avalanche crushed Peterson with his own belly to belly, though the ref counted the face fall. Second fall was kinda weird in the opening, with Doll not knowing how to take a hot shot and then an awkward mini-run from the faces. I did like Dein a good bit in this fall. Just the way he carries himself is interesting. Anyhow this just ends and doesn't have nearly enough to meat to move further. Interview with Samoa/Assassin in between falls Grappler/Rip Oliver promo.
February 17, 201312 yr comment_5535646 Are we going to get anything of note from '88 Portland? Because these shows sound absolutely terrible.
February 17, 201312 yr comment_5535647 I would argue that we should try to get at least a couple matches from 88 on. I won't advocate for anything that is less than good though and I don't know how much good Portland there is from that period.
