Art Barr vs. Buddy Rose – Yeah, Buddy! Rose looked pretty rough by this point but was still probably the best guy in the promotion. Barr went for a sliced bread early, but Buddy countered that into a back suplex in a neat spot. Barr looked good bouncing around for Buddy, and Buddy took one great bump for a guy of his girth. This had a lot of potential but was painfully short, ending when Buddy got a pin out of nowhere with his feet on the ropes for leverage. The ref then reversed the decision. Not enough here for a nomination. Col. DeBeers vs. Steve Doll – I was surprised how easily DeBeers handled Doll, given that Doll was hardly a jobber. But DeBeers’ offense at least looked kind of nasty. Yet another match that just didn’t build enough to merit consideration. Top Gun vs. The Grappler – This was the last fall. Grappled basically clubbed on Top Gun until Top Gun won with a flash roll-up to earn a title shot at Flair. Al Madril vs. Steve Doll – Hot start. Madril jumped Doll at the bell and Doll parried with a dropkick. They went about five minutes, with some good outside brawling. But then they went to the legs-on-the rope pin by Madril followed by the ref reversal. God, this is tedious wrestling TV. Art Barr vs. Billy Two Eagles - They started with some nice armdrag exchanges, and Two Eagles looked pretty good on the mat (Barr, not so much.) Then, the ref called a draw out of nowhere Horrible, just horrible. Avalanche vs. C.W. Bergstrom – Squash. Steve Doll vs. Al Madril – These guys actually had good chemistry if only they had bothered to wrestle a fully conceived match. Instead, they went 3:15. Doll won with his feet on the ropes, a semi-clever play on one of the promotion’s favorite cheap endings (because Doll was a babyface.) C.W. Bergstrom vs. Mike Golden – Fine basic wrestling, but the crowd didn’t care and neither did the announcer. So why should I? Art Crews vs. Billy Two Eagles – This was only the first fall. Nothing too special anyway.
