The beginning of this is neat as instead of Larry stalling his ass off it is Larry playing the fool and getting bumped around, one upped, et. Funny moment as Larry clutches his balls to avoid a cheap shot so Sarge punches him in the face. Tide changes with Sarge taking his lunatic bump over the top to the concrete. Larry follows this up by bumping Sarge wildly onto the ringside table. Sarge sells forever on the floor while Larry Z fucks with the turnbuckle cover. Larry gets a near fall after bashing Sarge into the exposed turnbuckle. Larry ends up going for his big piledriver but Sarge back body drops out. Sarge starts hulking up and reals off a string of punches knocking Larry on his ass. Slaughter goes for his diving clothesline, but Larry Z ducks and Slaughter fucking KILLS the ref with this. Slaughter locks on the Cobra Clutch after Larry gets bumped into the steel turnbuckle. A different ref hits the ring and rings the bell for the "title switch."

AWA World Heayvweight Title: "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko © vs. Sgt. Slaughter (7/8/89)

Larry coming out to Welcome to the Jungle is great. Joe Blanchard the new figurehead president of the AWA is on commentary. Larry has already worked over the top turnbuckle before the match which is what he loved to do. Sarge takes it to Larry early on which keeps him from stalling around and has Larry bumping and stooging all over the ring. I loved the spot where Larry tried his savate kick with Sarge blocking and Larry immediately putting his hand over his balls. Larry would come back though throwing Sarge into the corner who took his signature awesome bump over the top to the floor. Larry then threw Sarge on the ringside table and choked him with a camera wire to get the advantage. Larry keeps Sarge on the floor with shots in between working the turnbuckle more. Sarge would come back in and Larry got some nearfalls before bashing his head into the exposed steel on the top turnbuckle. Larry tried a piledriver but Sarge countered out and then fired up for his comeback with the fans going wild for him as he took it to Larry. Sarge would set up for the Slaughter Cannon but nailed Gary DeRusha instead although the match would continue as Larry ran himself into the steel and ate a Cobra Clutch with another referee and future Dirty White Boy Tom Burton came out to give Sarge the win. Gary DeRusha would say though that since Sarge hit him he was DQed and there was an argument among the referees with Joe Blanchard saying they would settle it in the back. What a leader that Blanchard is, he saw the whole thing at ringside. Nevertheless even with the Dusty finish this was a good match and moves forward.

Sgt. Slaughter vs. Larry Z

- I love how Sarge prevents Larry from escaping the headlock. Classic when Larry protects the family jewels when Sarge catches Larry’s leg and has to hop on one leg. Damn, Larry turns the tide on a pretty sick signature bump over the top. The ref took a pretty brutal bump but you could see the Dusty Finish a mile away. I enjoyed this but it felt a lot like the Martel-Larry match I watched earlier where the ending came out of nowhere.
