This is such a strange match on paper and it translates that way in action. Most of the match is built around Baron as FIP which is just awkward. I can't say it's bad because the crowd is into it but Baron's selling is really dramatic and yet he takes offense very shakily. At one point Bloom appears to be livid with him and just tosses him with a body slam. Hot tag is well built to and it's a typical AWA tag as Slaughter clocks Enos with a clothesline he bumps viciously for, but then takes a sledgehammer to the back of his head coming off the ropes and goes FIP himself. Enos hits a nice leaping headbutt and Sarge bumps to the floor. Sarge gets the hot tag off a missed Enos headbutt off the second rope. Baron locks the claw on Bloom and Enos and Sarge end up on the floor. All hell breaks loose and the faces get DQ'ed for using a sledgehammer introduced by Johnny V. I liked big parts of this, though the finish was really lame.

AWA World Tag Titles Tournament - Semifinals: The Destruction Crew (Wayne Bloom & Mike Enos) vs. Baron Von Raschke & Sgt. Slaughter (10/1/89)

Baron working with the Crew makes him look way past his prime which he was but still these young guys didn't help the image. Sarge didn't get much offense at all as Baron would get caught after an early face shine segment. Baron's selling here didn't match the way he took the moves which was interesting and may have actually pissed off the Crew a little as they went a littler harder on their execution. Sarge would get the hot tag and he ran wild before he got hit with a sledgehammer in the back of his head starting his FIP section which was better than the Baron's. Sarge would get the hot tag after Enos missed a big diving headbutt and Baron would come in doing his schtick before locking the claw on Bloom while the other two brawled on the floor. The sledgehammer would come in use again but this time the faces would get caught with it and got DQed. Fun little match but another shitty finish. I'm going to say no on this one.
