One of the first matches of its kind. The Funk/Sabu matches were wild in a different way. This feels more like the typical ECW brawl we'd get accustomed to, with gimmicked tables, fans bringing weapons and such. This means I don't really like it all that much. They did a hell of a job hyping it, and the match seems like a fairly big deal, but they spend less time brawling than you'd expect, spending far more time doing sub-par wrestling. Do I really need to see these two doing suplex counters and waistlocks mixed in with the crowd brawling and weapons shots?

Actual wrestling seems out of place for these guys. I understand having a feeling out period but I figured these guys would just come out brawling right away. Nice punch by Sabu that drops Cactus to the mat. Match had it’s moments but did feel like a standard ECW brawl at times. Outside of the first meeting of the two didn’t feel like anything too special and the finish was dumb. The bigger impact stuff came after the match ended.

This match was a typical ECW brawl. I wish they would have just immediately started a crazy, bloody, gruesome, and extremely violent brawl. Instead, Mick stood around and watched Sabu run circles around him and then allowed him to dropkick and beat him up for 5 minutes. This had it's moments but it wasn't what it should have been. At best it was a solid brawl. The finish was terrible and the post-match was needlessly long.

Cactus was clearly working hurt here, to the point where he probably shouldn't have been working at all going by his first book, and it really showed. Call me nuts but as a standalone match I actually thought this was pretty good. Yep, I even liked the waistlock counters and stuff that built to the big insane spots rather than the guys going balls-to-the-wall to start. Kind of reigned Sabu's worst tendencies in, the same way Funk did, even if it was by pure accident due to Jack's injury. That said, it didn't live up to all the pre-match hype and the fans who viewed this as a disappointment probably were right to feel that way. And the ending is pretty cheap. Even the post-match starts out pretty hot, as Jack actually carries 911 to something resembling a watchable sequence, but then it just goes on and on and on with Jack blowing a ton of shit and the involvement of Hughes, Douglas, the Bruise Brothers, 911, and other guys I don't give two fucks about. And that chairshot to 911's head was sickening and not in a good, fun way.
