How could anyone see Hogan and Flair in this segment and not cheer Flair and hate Hogan and this promotion? Anyway, Hogan agrees to put his career on the line if he can get Flair in the ring one more time and Flair can beat him. Hogan reveals that now his knee is fine, proving that he's smarter than Flair and that no heel is capable of doing any damage to him, I guess.
June 15, 201213 yr comment_5506636 More boos for Hogan. This is amazing stuff to me. The WCW crowd is just rejecting him. He won't turn for another two years. Hogan and Flair have a phone call that we get to witness. Hogan has the masterplan to get Flair back in the ring. Hulkster puts in career on the line even though he is the champion. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Flair accepts this one easily.

December 13, 201212 yr comment_5522535 Hogan gets booed again, which is always fun to me. Flair is cool, got beautiful women around him and comes off very likable. Hogan comes off like a big goof in a gym with a sneeky rat like Jimmy Hart doing seedy business. This is complete shit, like most of what Hogan has done since he came on board. Man, I was curious to revisit this in context, and it's actually worse than I thought. Also, you want to just slap the fuck out of Gene Okerlund. GET OFF HOGAN'S DICK NOW !

Flair was the main booker of WCW when Hogan signed (in fact, dating back to November 1993 following the Sid/Arn incident in the UK). Of course, with Hogan's creative control, he was able to rewrite anything he was involved in -- and generally he did. He also made sure to bring in his buddies (Duggan, Honky, Butcher, etc) and get them prominent roles. As a result, while technically speaking Hogan wasn't the booker of WCW, his influence was powerful enough that he was able to impact far more than just his own programs.

This is clearly pre-taped, as Okerlund is trying to fit responses in that don't match what Hulk is saying. Then a really dippy set-up involving JImmy Hart getting Ric Flair on the phone where there happens to be a camera. For some reason one of the skanks that Flair's with gets more fucking face time to talk than Flair himself. Flair busts out the "Real World Champion" line again. Flair's partying and retired and apparently not cognizant of a goddamned camera in the middle of his orgy. Hogan somehow finds time to bitch about the officiating in the Clash match. This goes on, and on, and ON until Hogan gets to the frigging point of challenging Flair to a retirement match. Interestingly, only Hogan has offered to put his career on the line at this point. Flair is good here but this is an awful, awful segment. This is a match stip deserving of a low-key Hogan promo--the kind he cut before agreeing to wrestle Earthquake, or before his "farewell" at WM8. Or even the angry, intense promo after being burned by Sgt. Slaughter. There have been examples all over these Yearbooks that show Hogan can legitimately bring the goods when he wants. Instead, it's similar to what happened to Vince Russo when away from the WWF Machine. This is Hogan at his hokiest and most obnoxious.
July 27, 201510 yr comment_5687869 Its odd reading the WONs for this period as Dave talks for weeks that Flair is planning on retiring in Fall to focus on booking and running his gym, then WCW decides to go with this gimmick and Meltz gets on his soapbox about WCW forcing out a legend who still gets ratings and fan responses.
