Finally, Scott Bowden lends a helping hand, which leads to Doug hitting Lawler with a football helmet which Scott claimed was signed by his uncle. Buddy Landell ends up running in for the DQ when Lawler gets his hands on the helmet. Fun match that I wish could have gotten more time. Doug Gilbert could go in the ring at this point, if this and the highlighted Brian Christopher match are any indication.
June 15, 201213 yr comment_5506653 I didn't get the FSU reference until you mentioned it. I was trying to figure it out the whole match. Good match as USWA has been providing a bit more actual wrestling of late. We still get our plenty of outside interference though.
June 29, 201213 yr comment_5508468 This was a fun match. Lawler tries to unmask Doug to reveal his bald head. Scott Bowden is walking around with an FSU helmet claiming "Uncle Bobby" signed it. He keeps giving it to Doug behind the refs back. Doug keeps pounding Lawler in the back with it. Lawler gets a hold of the helmet and tries to use it on Doug but Buddy Landell interferes and the three heels triple team Lawler until Brian Christopher makes the save. Lawler wins by DQ but I wish this could have gotten more time.
July 7, 201213 yr comment_5509525 Another good lengthy TV match. I don't quite get the FSU connection because I can't see Bobby Bowden being much of a villain in Memphis but I guess Scott had the name already and needed a tie in.
June 7, 201411 yr comment_5606109 Next to the Adams/Austin "come as you are" match, this is perhaps the finest football-helmet-psychology-centered match ever seen in wrestling. It's basically Lawler trying to unmask Gilbert and Gilbert and Bowden using subterfuge and a football helmet to maintain an advantage, before the standard run-in DQ. Lawler is left laying and Gilbert remains masked.
