Greg seems to flub a few spots early with Buddy which is rare though nothing looks to bad. Buddy busts out a kip up early which was pretty cool. God damn Somers can take a back body drop. Buddy steps on the ropes and they do the spot where Greg bounces the ropes causing him to crotch himself. Somers is fun contorting like a freak and selling the hell out of the base level stuff the faces are working. There is an awesome spot where Somers tries to come back with stiff shots and Greg fucking drills him in return. Somers falls into his corner and Buddy backs away from the tag in a really wonderful act of cowardice. Rose teasing the effort for a tag he obviously didn't want was pretty glorious. Gagne comes off the ropes and Somers does this weird trip thing taking him down. Gagne is taking these horribly weird bumps and gets fucking crushed by Buddy with the Billy Robinson backbreaker. Buddy bumps his own ass and tags in Doug. Buddy chokes Greg with the tag rope and he tags back in. At this point they are basically working over Greg's throat with a myriad of chokes and throat strikes which are pretty sick. They change things up and go to work on the ribs of Gagne, but Buddy gets busted cheating on an ab stretch. He goes for a second, but Gagne reversed into his own before Buddy hip tosses out. Snuka gets the hot tag and lights up Somers for a near fall. Doug gets crushed with strikes from Gagne and takes a couple more back body drops Buddy gets decked and is offering up the Buddy greatness with his selling and sure enough Gagne hits some damn good dropkick and locks on the sleeper and Buddy comes off the top and crushes Gagne with a double axe. Match gets thrown out. Really dumbass finish to a pretty good match. Post-match Sherri gets whipped into Buddy and the place is going fucking crazier than I've ever seen the Showboat. This deserves to be seen by others on the crew, but it's hard to imagine it making it to the next level.

AWA World Tag Titles: "Playboy" Buddy Rose & "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers © vs. Greg Gagne & "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka (9/20/86)

 

The early action was fun as the heels were bumping and selling like you expect and the faces are fiery while throwing out some good offense. Somers was really on point here taking all kinds of abuse and I loved the backwork as you know Snuka's foot had to be calloused as shit. Buddy was jumping on the ropes constantly with Greg shaking them making him fall which was great. Greg works FIP after taking a shot in the gut by Somers and Buddy was really solid here viciously working over Greg's ribs. Snuka gets the hot tag and he runs wild on Somers before Greg joins in and Somers really is the fucking MVP here as he is showcasing his repertoire as a defensive wrestler. Sherri would distract Snuka and the referee as Gagne had Somers in the sleeper so Rose came off the top on Greg and this eventually leads to the referee throwing out the match due to Sherri being involved. Shitty finish but this was an awesome match. Easy nomination to me.

Buddy Rose/Doug Somers v. Greg Gagne/Jimmy Snuka Low End Nomination - AWA TV 10/26/86

- Great armwork by the faces including the SICK double stomp on the arm from Greg. The one thing about AWA matches… you get used to heel in peril segments. When Buddy takes over, it is a game of how many ways can we choke Gagne and I am loving it. I enjoyed this more than the Rockers match I watched the other day. This was Doug and Buddy doing their thing against an inferior team but since they are so great, you would thing Snuka-Gagne was the hottest team of the 80s. This match should be on the set.
