Posted May 5, 201213 yr comment_5501828 Larry Hennig/Super Destroyer 2 arm wrestling match. Not sure of the date on this. This is an incredibly lengthy angle and at one point they have a bizarre split screen image of Lord Alfred Hayes screaming instructions to SD2. Hayes interferes with his cane and Destroyer fucking crushes Hennig with a chair. Cool angle for the most part, but not sure if it is relevant. Mad Dog Vachon/Verne Gagne v. Super Destroyers Silent film clips. Cool to see if nothing else. Super Destroyer 2 v. Dino Bravo Extremely fun studio match, though I worry about the date. I think one of the points of these projects is to catch all the elements of the territory from the era. This really does that well. Bravo is an unlikely, young, babyface type, but he really is fun as the clean cut kid doing dropkicks and rope running/monkey flip spots. SD2 takes a bunch of big bumps. I also liked him on offense as he worked simple, but really sharp looking spots, including a cool running slam in the corner with the ref narrowly avoiding getting crushed. Bravo wins clean with an airplane spin and there is a huge post-match controversy about whether or not SD has to unmask, with Lord Hayes claiming it's not fair since Bock didn't drop the title win he lost on tv the previous week. SD ambushes Bravo and Karbo gets crushed. Bravo ends up snatching the match and cuts a post-match promo with it. If this is within the right time frame it should probably make the set. SD2 cuts an in ring promo on Hayes, firing him mid-ring. Then he introduces his new manager, Bobby Heenan. EXTRA Giant Baba v. Super Destroyer 2 Pretty sure this is an AWA match. This was really fun to watch, but not even a "good" match really. Lots of bumping from SD and a post-match beatdown for Bobby. More novel than anything. Super Destroyer 2 v. Nick Bockwinkel JIP. Man SD takes a fucking crazed bump here. He makes his comeback by unmasking and fucking crushes Bock with a clothesline. Heenan costs him the match via cheapshot. Really fun, but far too short.
May 7, 201213 yr comment_5501965 Hennig-SD II Arm wrestling was from 1978. Baba-SD II is from June of 1980 in Minneapolis. SD II vs. Bravo *I think* is from 1979. Ditto with SD II firing Hayes as his manager. I will look into it to be sure...
May 7, 201213 yr Author comment_5501967 See if you can figure out an exact date on SDII v. Bravo because that is something I would go to bat for for the set if it's 80, but obviously it ain't going on if it is 79
