Posted May 8, 201213 yr comment_5502051 I can't fucking believe we are still uncovering Bock v. Hennig matches this far in, but I don't recall seeing this before and I checked the Bock/Hennig comp and all the other Winnipeg discs and I have no review anywhere else. Curt opens up on Bock early, Bock bails to the floor and comes back in pissed throwing nasty uppercuts to Curt's guts in the corner. Bock goes to a headlock, which he works for a while, before Curt makes his comeback off a rope running exchange runs through some offense. Curt tries to work a chinlock but Bock goes to the eyes and slugs the fuck out of him only for Curt to come back with elbows. Bock cuts him off by tossing him to the floor and they do the old AWA staple with the heel playing king of the mountain in the ring by keeping the babyface on the floor. Bock tries one too many times and Curt opens up with some big shots and gets back in the ring. Curt gets a string of near falls and then locks on a camel clutch but Bock makes it to the ropes. I kind of liked the follow up as Curt opens up on him more and goes back to the clutch but then says fuck it and punches him right in the face instead. Bock comes back with a big shot of his own and they end up with this weird flubbed back body drop spot, followed by a double knock down spot. Bock tosses Hennig back to the floor again and tries to follow up in the ring with a piledriver but Curt reverses. Hennig comes back with some great punches and gets a good near fall, before going back to work on Bock's back. Curt is in control when Larry Z shows up and distracts Curt causing Bock to get a cheap knee and win. Post-match Curt dropkicks the two heels into each other. I'll nominate this because it was a pretty good match, but this was easily the worst of their matches an if we are leaving any of them off this is the one that is getting cut.
May 20, 201213 yr comment_5502956 Nick Bockwinkel vs. Curt Hennig (2/7/85) Curt was fiery babyface here and he was fun taking the battle to the grizzled veteran Bock who had Zbyszko in his corner here. Bock would take over soon though after regrouping on the floor and he threw some nice uppercuts to get the best of Hennig. Curt though is pesky as shit and won't go down without a fight as he goes toe-to-toe with Bock trading shots and hangs with him on the mat as well. The match continues with a back-and-forth style as neither man could keep the advantage until Zbyszko distracts him allowing Bock to get a cheap win. You can't really compare this to their classics 2 years later but still this was a really good match and should move forward.
May 31, 201213 yr comment_5504833 Curt Hennig vs. Nick Bockwinkel - This may be the worst of the series but it is the best match I have seen today and I moved the Lawler-Gagne tag ahead already. Seriously, this may be a case where we just have to have another match form the same feud. Take the section where Bock keeps Hennig from entering the ring. When this was done in Martel-Larry Z, the ending came a minute later. Not a fan of the chinlock, but with Hennig damaging the ribs, it made it easier to digest. Damn, Hennig was just punishing those ribs. Anyway, I want to push this forward for now. If there are more than 5 Bock0Hennig matches then I would be fine dropping this so you guys can get a personal pick. In the meantime, I think it should be on the set.
May 31, 201213 yr Author comment_5504839 I'm not averse to it going on because it's the best singles series in the AWA from the decade and the matches were spaced out enough where six doesn't feel that excessive. Depending on how many you take Will, Kris and I will probably end up with between four and six picks a pop. Looking at what's out there still I really doubt there is anything left after that number of pics where I would feel it got horribly slighted and this match was to blame.
