NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. Hercules Ayala (9/21/85)

This is from the 1985 Anniversario show. Ayala is a babyface at this time so the fans are into him big here. Ayala really wrenches in the greco-roman knucklelock as he drags Flair into the ropes for a break. Ayala dominates the early part at least when he can as Flair stalls some here to slow him down. Ayala gets more aggressive as we go to a break and we come back with him biting Flair on the head who is juicing heavily here so it looks like we missed some action. Ayala locks on a sleeper which turns into a chokehold basically as Flair falls to the mat with the referee raising his arms but Flair would put his foot the bottom rope to break free. Ayala kept working over the cut and tries to put Flair away although he really doesn't do a whole lot as he just plods around. Flair would eventually climb up top just to get slammed off the top of course once but he tries again although the next time Ayala catches him as he comes down in a bearhug. Flair is definitely working for two here and as Ayala tried to suplex him back in the ring from the apron Flair fell on top to win. We missed some action but what was shown wasn't inspiring to say the least although Flair worked hard.

Universal Heavyweight Title: Carlos Colon © vs. Abdullah the Butcher (9/21/85)

This is a brawl at the bell of course and it's what you would expect from these two as it's no frills just punching, kicking, & biting. Colon was even biting behind Abby's ear and the scruff of his neck which was great. Abby is great here selling the punishment as Colon is just beating his ass. Then we get a fucking clip as we come back from break with both men juicing heavily. That pisses me off and it sucks because it killed my buzz here although the rest of the match was all violence. Nomination if we have this in full somewhere. I just checked and this match is in full on Youtube along with the Flair/Ayala match so that is promising.

North American Tag Titles: Chicky Starr & "Rambo" Ron Starr © vs. The Invader & Al Perez (August 1986)

The heels take turns working over Perez to start until Invader tags in which would immediately get clipped to Invader working FIP. God I hate clipping. Invader was good here as FIP as he had some nice hope spot nearfalls and the heels did basic but effective work. Perez would get the hot tag and ran wild on the heels before the 4-way brawl would break out and the crowd was going nuts here. Invader would slug the referee before Perez would lock on the sleeper on Ron which would bring out White Knight who attacked him with a board. Perez would get up and saw Invader with the stick in his hand and was pissed off so he attacked Invader and broke the board over his head with Invader juicing heavily. Good match that would've been better without the clipping with a hot angle at the end. We need this angle as an extra if we can't find a full version of the match.

The Rock n Roll RPM's (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) vs. Hans Mueller & Dusty Wolfe (August 1986)

Squash.

Chicky Starr vs. Franklin Washington (August 1986)

Squash.

White Knight (Pat Rose) vs. Jorge Clemente (August 1986)

Squash.

Next we get a Flair vs. George South from JCP TV.

WWC TV Title Tournament: The Invader vs. Mexican Angel (August 1986)

Invader is bandaged up from the Perez attack earlier so Angel immediately goes to work on the forehead and the blood starts flowing. Angel just works over Invader who tries to fight back throwing bombs and finally connects with a few. Invader would finally hit him with a cross chop to the neck and got the win. This was starting out strong but the win came way too quick for me.

Ric Flair v. Hercules Ayala - 9/21/85

I think I've seen this already but figured fuck it and figured I'd also watch the full match which is up on youtube because that is what is going to determine if it is a nomination. I should have stuck with the clips because this sucked. Maybe the worst long Flair title match I can recall seeing as neither guy did much of anything interesting for the first three quarters of this and there was not nearly enough in the last quarter to make up for it. Even Flair's blade job seemed half assed. This was not good at all.

Chicky had Miguel in the sports shop

Abby v. Colon is nominated and seconded already.

Chicky Starr & "Rambo" Ron Starr © vs. The Invader & Al Perez

About eight minutes or so of this was shown. No clue how much there was in full, but I must have had my head up my ass because I didn't even catch the clip. As a match, this was good, but not great. The strength of this was in the way the heat was built as the Starr's worked very simple holds and cut off the ring on Invader to great effect. I am a mark for that sort of stuff, but still would have liked to see some of the trademark Ron Starr offense. Even still the hope spots during all of that were really well done and Invader was excellent working underneath which is a consistent strength of his. The hot tag was well timed and Perez came in nuts which helped set up the really awesome angle. It's crazy because I saw the white hood and thought Medico and was briefly confused, but man the angle is really good, and Invader's blade job is epic. I'd say this is worth a nomination as I doubt there are more than four minutes missing and the heat in this was really strong.

RPMs and Chick squashes were okay.

The Invader vs. Mexican Angel

Really an awesome performance from Invader here as he has his head wrapped and is still bloody, so the whole match his him getting his ass kicked and doing this tremendously charismatic sell job before making this awesome staggered comeback. Unfortunately the totality of this was about three minutes.

If I'm not mistaken, the Sports Shop segment with Miguelito is basically Chicky giving Miguelito a hard time about what the heck qualifies him to be granted a NWA World Title shot at Aniversario 86 against the reigning champ Dusty Rhodes. This segment was filmed and aired during the brief window Dusty had the title in 1986. Miguelito would end up facing Ric Flair.
