Peterson's turn for the Kevin Kelly challenge! Hey Kelly actually took some decent bumps for DJ! Then he crushed him with a clothesline. This is basic work but Martel is great as a second and the crowd is really hot for this. They work a test of strength forever but it's not as awful as it sounds and Peterson takes a crazed bump into the flap of children and women in the front row. Sunset flip got a really nice near fall. Man you have to hand it to Peterson as the guy was over and really got the most out of sorry as Kelly. Nice near fall on a suplex from Kelly. Peterson takes a huge corner bump and then another suplex for a near fall. Peterson gets up a head of steam and cross bodies Kelly but Kelly catches him and his a backbreaker for a near fall. The reset and there is an awesome spot with Peterson hitting a huge shoulder tackle off the ropes for a near fall but Kelly gets his foot on the ropes. Peterson goes for another cross body and Kelly tosses him wildly over the ropes where DJ takes a fucking massive bump and Kelly gets DQ'ed. This was a shockingly great performance from Peterson. The match went too long, but it was a good match - at least as good if not better than Blackwell v. Kelly. Total miracle really.

*bonus points on the nomination because I can't believe this was good at all, let alone a good, relatively long match involving Kevin Kelly and DJ Peterson

DJ Peterson vs. "Mr. Magnificent" Kevin Kelly (5/1/87)

Let's see how good this is. The fans are hot for DJ here and that adds to the match plus they hate Sherri. DJ does some decent work in his shine section as he focuses on Kevin's left arm heavily. I'll give Kelly credit for bumping hard on DJ's armdrags and the like. Kelly would soon take the advantage and used the greco-roman knucklelock for quite a while but DJ would go right back to work on the left arm after an armdrag. Kelly would chunk DJ to the floor then followed him out and threw him into the fans but DJ being pesky came back with a sunset flip off the apron for a nearfall. Kelly would club him though and went back to work with his shitty offense. DJ was fun though working FIP and kept the crowd alive with his hope spots as Kelly was boring them. DJ made his comeback and he had Kelly reeling getting some good nearfalls before Kelly caught him on a cross body block and chunked him over the top rope to the floor in a shitty finish. Was this a miracle I wouldn't go that far but this was a good match especially considering Kelly was involved so I'll pass it forward as a low-end pick but I doubt this makes the cut.

Curious Kris, did you like this or the Blackwell/Kelly match better?

I actually think if Kelly's control segment was two minutes shorter this would have been a borderline lock as that portion really dragged the match to a halt for a bit.

I also didn't mind the finish as at least Peterson took a lunatic bump for the all to common shitty AWA finish.
