Axehandle On A Pole Match: Invader III vs. Chicky Starr (October 1988) Well at least this was a pole match where the guys were trying to climb the pole and they were vigorously trying to grab the axehandle but when they were battling in the ring they were slugging it out pretty good. No frills action as they pounded each other bloody before Chicky would finally grab the axehandle but he missed coming off the top with it so Invader got the axehandle after a struggle and hit him once but missed another time with Chicky answering back with a reverse atomic drop to win. Fun action with these guys working hard and this is a low-end pick

This was nowhere near as good as their scaffold match, but I wouldn't hesitate to call it good. In some ways this reminded me a lot of an Assassin v. Curt Hennig Coal Miner's Glove match from Portland which is built all around pole climbing spots. On one level I can see some finding that tedious, but on another it makes sense and as is always the case with PR it gets over the gimmick. Really loved the spot with Invader trying to use Chicky as a jungle gym apparatus to get a shot at the stick. I thought the spot with Chicky getting the stick and then having it wrestled away from him was well done. Finish wasn't satisfying but based on what I'd seen others say about it I was expecting a lot worse.

This is clearly the least of their three matches, but I don't think it would look out of place on a set. Don't think I'd go to the wall for it, but I wouldn't eliminate it either.
