Posted May 14, 201213 yr comment_5502525 TNT vs. Tama (March 1989) Decent at best. Huracan Castillo Jr., Maelo Huertas, & Miguel Perez Jr. vs. Bart & Brad Batten, & El Profe (7/1/89) Decent 6-man formula match but nothing special. WWC Tag Titles: Abuddadein & "Hustler" Rip Rogers © vs. The Invaders (I y III) (7/1/89) Rip was fun here to start as the Invaders were switching back and forth like motherfuckers wrenching over his left arm while Abuddadein is constantly pissed at this so he tried to help but he would hit Rip with 2 diving elbows and a legdrop by mistake which was nice. Rip would finally get the tag to Abuddadein after being pounded on for over 5 minutes and they took control of Invader III with some good teamwork but Abuddadein was a pretty crappy wrestler with Rip carrying the team basically. Invader I would get the hot tag and the 4-way brawl was on but as Invader III climbed up top, Rip threw him off and Abuddadein went to load up his boot but Invader I would roll him up in an O'Connor Roll for a nearfall. The brawling continued to the floor with both teams getting counted out. Shitty finish and if this had a better finish I probably would've put this on the block. Then we get a video for the Abuddadein & Rip Rogers team which was cool. Caribbean Tag Titles: Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguel Perez Jr. © vs. Bart & Brad Batten (July 1989) The champs had just lost a hair match to the Batten's so they were pissed and came in the ring blazing taking the action to the floor immediately for some wild brawling with the crowd going apeshit. Bart & Brad really took a beating here bumping and selling like crazy along with really agitating the fans which was a plus. We would get a clip in the action but it looks like we don't miss much as the faces were still in control here as the Batten's were on the floor trying to regroup with Profe who would help the Batten's finally get control by tripping up Miguel as he ran the ropes. Miguel was fiery here trying to make a comeback but the Batten's were solid in keeping him away from Castillo as they took him to the floor numerous times attacking him. Bart would accidentally hit Brad with a diving smash off the top rope which gave Perez the chance he needed to get the hot tag to Huracan who ran wild on the heels before the 4-way brawl was on. This was hot action with Castillo coming off the top with a high cross body block for a pinfall but Profe would come in to break it up which brought out Maelo Huertas who chased Profe out of the ring but as this happened Huracan would roll up Bart with an O'Connor Roll to win the match. This was a pretty damn solid tag match featuring really good action and a hot crowd. Easy nomination. Next we get a video for The Invader. Carlos Colon vs. Nikolai Volkoff (August 1989) Wow I didn't know Volkoff worked WWC at this time. This wasn't very good though.
November 20, 201311 yr comment_5573393 TNT vs. Tama I thought this was fine. Nothing special, but decent enough. This kind of felt like one of those MSG undercard matches where nothing is offensive, but nothing grabs you, though there are a few solid moments. Respectable. Huracan Castillo Jr., Maelo Huertas, & Miguel Perez Jr. vs. Bart & Brad Batten, & El Profe Kind of a tale of two matches here. The first half of this was just okay, not terrible, but nothing special. I did like the grappling exchange with one of the Battens and Huertas, but over all it was flat. The second half picked up with Huertas in peril, some fun Battens offense, Profe being a dick, et. The actually finishing run with Profe chased around the ring and one of the Battens leaping into a nice Perez powerslam looked great. Still the second half wasn't long enough or strong enough to make up for the first half. Invader video. Abuddadein & "Hustler" Rip Rogers © vs. The Invaders (I y III) Man the face shine was long as fuck here. I enjoyed big chunks of it - especially the bit with Dein being out on the floor talking to Profe and missing the tag - but it was not nearly as well worked as the similar segment from the Rufus Jones tag on the last disc. When III went FIP I thought the match got more interesting. It's not that the heel team was all that great, but the selling was pretty good and atmosphere was awesome as it often is in Puerto Rico. After the hot tag this turned into a really fun back and fourth match and the near fall on the Dein loaded boat tease was really outstanding, as was the nasty punch/lariat Rogers used to break it up. From there all hell breaks loose and the match gets tossed out. This was better on paper which hurts it. I probably would have nominated it, but with Kris saying no already, this isn't a match I could see arguing hard for unlike the others I've nominated that he passed on. Dein/Rogers and Invader videos could be EXTRAs Kevon Von Erich has a local promo in here. They also show a still graphic which seemed to be saying that Furnas and Kroffat were coming in. Carlos Colon vs. Nikolai Volkoff I am a big Colon fan, but he wasn't going to pull off the miracle of having a nomination worthy match with Volkoff in 89. Having said that this was a decent little match considering the length and I was surprised that Colon let Volkoff eat him alive and then won on a roll up.
December 14, 201311 yr comment_5576076 TNT vs. Tama (March 1989) - This was okay. Tama isn't particularly engaging on offense and he was given a lot here. I was bored for awhile. I did like the finishing stretch. It was a lot of fun. TNT won with his superkick. Huracan Castillo Jr., Maelo Huertas, & Miguel Perez Jr. vs. Bart & Brad Batten, & El Profe (7/1/89) - This match was weird in that nothing happened in the first half and then it felt rushed in the second half. I loved the brief mat section between Huertas and one of the Battens. I was happy to see Huertas work in-peril too which he was good at but it felt rushed. The last minute was great with the Battens taking all of Perez and Castillo's offense but it was too quick. Perez won with his awesome powerslam on one of the Battens. This was too rushed. WWC Tag Titles: Abuddadein & "Hustler" Rip Rogers © vs. The Invaders (I y III) (7/1/89) - This ended shitty. It was a pretty good match for the most part and very close to a nomination. The face shine was good but a bit too long. Rogers is a great stooge and the arm work was a lot of fun. Invader III had a nice in-peril section but it was cut short. That's because they spent too much time on the heel-in-peril stuff. The finishing stretch is a lot of fun too but then the ref just throws the match out randomly. This was a disappointing good match if that makes any sense. It barely misses a nomination because of it. Caribbean Tag Titles: Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguel Perez Jr. © vs. Bart & Brad Batten (July 1989) - I've been excited to see a straight Batten twins tag and this didn't disappoint. Castillo and Perez come out and beat the holy hell out of the Battens all over the basketball courts. One Batten got tossed in the crowd and went flying over the barricade. The other was thrown into the barricade. Perez did a running body slam on one of them on the floor which fucking ruled. We get more face shine in the ring with the Battens seemingly taking control and one going for a monkey flip but Castillo landed on his feet and hit him with a huge clothesline sending him to the floor. I also loved the spot a little later where Perez drop kicked one of the twins and they literally fell to the floor and slid across the court. The Battens finally take control on Perez and work him over after Profe sneakily tripped him up on a rope running sequence. From here, the Battens use some nice heel tactics and we get sort of a King of the Mountain spot here as Perez is rammed into the barricade in a nice payback spot and slammed back first into the ring apron. The Battens miss a double team ax handle from the top and hit each other leading to the hot tag. Castillo cleans house and hits a top rope cross body but Profe breaks it up. Maelo Huertas runs out and chases Profe around the ring and then a massive brawl ensues. Inside the ring, Castillo rolls up one of the Battens to win the match. This was a total blast and had some awesome shit in it. This is a definite nomination and I'd call it SOLID for sure. I think it's very, very close to an EASY nomination but needed just a little bit more out of it. Carlos Colon vs. Nikolai Volkoff (August 1989) - This match was real quick and nothing to write home about. It's Nikolai Volkoff in 1989. That should answer all the questions.
